HI there,
My husband runs a private business as a self employed psychotherapist and has been enrolled in Master/PhD course this year. He is paying a great deal of money as a self financing student. He can usually claim back expenses on workshops conferences etc I think he can claim back the tuition fees for this course too as this is his professional development... This course will not increase the number of his clients nor he will charge more, this is his personal interests as he would like to research one particular 19 century philosopher in a more structured organised way. I believe this is a higher level of CPD....
Let me know your thoughts or some link/guidance?
thanks,
Gloria

Claim back expenses? From whom?0

This thread suggests that you're unlikely to be successful in claiming tax relief for the costs of MSc/PhD education (see post from Elsie on Sept 17, 2009).

You might want to post on the Cutting Tax board instead as this is a tax issue rather than a student one and there is more specific expertise there.0 -
I am in agreement with agrinnall, you cannot claim the course fees as an expense. Whilst it is CPD it is much more than that, as you say it is for personal interest and potentially for further study also.0

Link to the gov.uk pages. Can't see any mention of what you're describing here.
I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!0
