Oh dear I can't believe what I have eaten this past fortnight, it's like I've been possessed  My trousers don't fasten and Im due back to work in less than a week. I feel sluggish, fatigued and bloated and need a detox, not a faddy or expensive concoction though. Can anyone advise on a sensible way to detox?
Thanks

  • Stop eating - your fat reserves should carry you through. Drink plenty of water though.

PS I need to lose about 30 KG myself .......

5:2 way of eating. You only have to restrict your food for one day at a time. If you want to speed up the weight loss, you can do 4:3.

You can cut on sugar/bread etc and increase your veggie portions, water intake etc.

Oh there is no bread entering this house I love breads not the sliced packet stuff but the many variations from the bakeries and have used the festive season to sample them all :o

I have had a quick look at the 5:2, I have a friend who lost weight on this. It seems your fasting days are 500 calories so today I aim for lots of water, some porridge to start, egg, rocket and tomato salad for lunch and either chicken or fish for dinner.

Not sure if fasting is the same as detox?

Your body detoxes all the time - that's what your kidneys and liver are for.

I think my kidneys and liver must have taken a battering these last few weeks and thought a detox would help. However all I found online were faddy drinks.
Many years ago in my twenties if I felt like this I would only eat fruit and drink water for 2 days and feel much better, the last time I tried that I was shaky and felt faint :o
Thank you for your advice :)

Just reducing the amount of food you eat will give your kidneys and liver a break and help you feel better.

If you include plenty of good food in your diet, rather than ready meals, takeaways, cakes and so on, you'll also see a difference.

As others have said your body detoxes itself, but you can speed up feeling better by not adding more foods and drinks which add strain on the system whilst this happens.

I would cut out alcohol, sugar and any processed foods with artificial ingredients completely, and reduce caffeine to a bare minimum for a few days. I'd also drink lots of water and keep portion sizes modest.

Thanks for this I think I have the wrong idea about detox. I was thinking a detox had to be like a few days of drinking some vile tasting liquid that would make me feel much better and then return to healthy eating. I usually eat quite well, cooking from scratch, not much processed stuff but in truth I have neglected myself over the last few months and the last 2 weeks just went into overdrive :(
