Having recently got hitched, I thought I would check this one. I am guessing there is no such thing as a 'married persons tax allowance' these days.
I am pretty sure it demised many years ago now, but (not being a fanatical follower of tax legislation in the UK...) I just wanted to check.

I've got a feeling it was replaced with working tax credits :-/
Not sure though :-/Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
I'm fairly sure each person has their own tax allowance - certainly we couldn't claim anything when we got married just under 2 years ago.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

The good old days
When I got married the best time of the year to get married was half way through the tax year.
This was because the bride got a full years tax allowances as a single person and a full years tax allowances as a married person.
In addition a good time to have a baby was April 5th as the new baby got you a child tax allowance for the year which was just ending.
PS
On your mortgages interest you got a tax allowamce which was known as MIRAS.
Any money you had to pay as interest on your mortgage was free of tax under PAYE.
For well off folk it reduced the interest they paid by 40% or even more................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0
