click on a link to open a new tab

Hi

usually when I click on a link within MSE (forums) it opens up a new tab/page. But I can still see the original.
Now it seems to open a new page and I can not get back (see the original) to the previous/original page unless I use the back arrow, whereas before I could go back by clicking on the original tab (therefore I would have 2 tabs open)

What have I done? :o

thanks in advance

Whatever you've done, OP, I've done it too - within MSE. MSE hyperlinks always used to open in a new tab for me, but now they replace the current MSE page and I have to use Back to return to MSE (or rather, remember to right-click and select 'open in new tab'). Changed about a month or so ago for me. Not doing so on other sites, e.g. FB still opens hyperlinks straight to a new tab without intervention.

It's an MSE problem...they know about it and 'say' they will be looking at a fix. In the meantime if you are using a PC or laptop hold down the CTRL key and click on the link to open the link in a new window.

Response appreciated - although I'd only noticed it here, I hadn't thought to look down in the Site Feedback section to see if it was an actual problem :)

Clicking a link with the middle mouse button opens that link in a new tab. It is the easiest way to do it.

It a supposed security issue. This discusses both the issue and a fix..

It is quite annoying - I for one would take my chances. You can take special actions to open in a new tab with most browsers but I almost invariably forget and end up closing the tab with the original discussion. It's certainly one of the reasons I post here less than I used too as it annoys me when I close the tab and then I CBA to find the thread again.
