Havent made it myself but found this recipe on a homebrewing forum I use, its called turbo cider.
Ingredients:
4.5L of pure apple juice
1tsp yeast
Method:
1. Place 3L of apple juice into a demijon (assumeing everything is sterile)
2. PLace 1tsp of yeast into the demijon
3. shake
4. leave for 36-48hrs to ferment then top with with the remaining of the juice (cant fill it right up at the start as it will foam quite a bit)
5. leave to ferment out
6. Rack off and drink (or if you like cider fizzy then prime as usual)
i thought i would try this out and i was very impressed with the results.
it is sssooooo easy
i used tesco value apple juice and SG was 1.042 so no sugar was necessary (to get to 5.5%ish) but if you want cider stronger add sugar/honey or whatever.
very good for a beginer and an expert alike!

Thanks for your help.
I shall give it a go!0 -
How long does it take to ferment? Also what does 'prime' mean.
Thanks for your help - I live in the middle east so can't get alchol!0 -
''prime'' your bottles means you add a tsp of sugar to each bottle before you cap it.........but be really careful, cos i made cider a couple of months ago, and i think i added a bit much sugar to the bottles cos they exploded everywhere!!!
luckily they weren't in the house, they were being stored in the shed, and we were all woken up one night thinking someone was shooting the outside of our house, it was THAT noisy :rotfl:0 -
I read a good tip about using plastic bottles that have contained fizzy drinks, like water, coke etc. That way if they do burst there would be no bits of glass everywhere.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I made hombrew lager and the turbo cider back in december, both were pretty good and very cheap
I used 25ltr catering buckets bought for a fiver from my old work. I got a few funny looks buying all those cartons of apple juice in Lidl!
As above I filled/fermented it off into 2ltr PET bottles.
Think I may even have a couple bottles kicking around in the back toilet, I wonder what they'll be like after all this time, prolly rotten or strong enough to blow yer socks off
Also you have to steralise EVERYTHING. I just used 28p tesco value bleach watered down, then rinsed very throurghly. This should all be listed on the homebrew sites - here's another good one http://www.homewinemaking.co.uk/cgi/yabb/YaBB.cgi ; there used to be a cracking thread on turbo cider on there but it seems to have disappeared
Have fun!!!:D0 -
A lil thing i've found for sterilising all the home brewing stuff, as I don't like using bleach, is the sterilising tablets you can get for baby bottles. I got a pack of these for 99p and got about 40 tablets. Not bad given you'd use one tablet per gallon/per four litres of water.0

DH want to have a go at making his own cider, but he likes it sparkling rather than flat. Has anyone had any success and can you share your method of making it? Thank you!0
