Ha I did think about it... Sorry! At least you now know how a dog owner might feel...
  • Dog has stopped barking when he goes to bed now, which is a great bit of progress. Unfortunately, he is getting up a bit early (5 to 5.30am) and then barking.

How do you get a dog to have a lie-in!

    That's great news

    Your house sounds like mine.

This morning my dog got up at 5.30am. I would love to know how I could get him to sleep a little longer.
  • I experienced exactly the same thing with my next door neighbour.

At the time I didn't want to mention it as I felt bad causing confrontation. I did try and knock on the house, however they weren't in when I went round. Eventually I wrote a letter to my neighbours.

They were very apologetic. They didn't even realise that their poor dog was in so much distressed.

They arranged for it to got to a family members, or to work with them.

To be honest, I wish I would of said it sooner.

Sometimes honesty really is the best policy.

    :)

Sorry to say it Ringo, but they sleep for longer when they're sleeping in the same room as you. :o

haha not going to happen. I don't think he's ever slept in his owners bedroom.

Anyway, he had a nice solid sleep from 11pm to 5.30am - which is a massive improvement in a week. Now I need to figure out how to get him to have a lie in!

Time, more than anything. Gitdog was an early riser, so I started taking him out later at night for a short walk and some days now I'm dragging him out of his crate at 10 am.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks, I did try that and he ended up sleeping till 6.10am - which is a bit better! I could do with getting him towards 7am for my own sanity
  • Dag-namit, the dog is now waking up between 4 and 5am now!

I think we've screwed up by taking away his late-evening snack biscuit.
