INSANE or what? Sky charging £70 a month for Sky&Broadband/Phone. Thinking to cancel

So I have slowly seen my Sky bills go from £18 a month to now £70 a month for the same stuff and this is a bit insane!
I'm bloody paying them £38 for a few good channels and most others which seem to repeat the same bloody doodle! With adverts!
I must be the idiot to continue this.
Does anyone find this outrageous?
Do they usually do heavy discounts? (I have read the discount threads here)
What would I get if I cancel my Sky? Basic freeview channels?
Can I really get it close to £20 again from £70? Can anyone point me to the best way to do this?
Otherwise I will just cancel my TV and keep the broadband.

It's not insane for Sky to charge that as lots of people pay that and double.
However as for getting a cheaper deal then this article and these two threads are your saviour's:

Read the haggling article at least and the last 4 or so pages of the successful haggling thread to see what people are getting at the moment.0 -
Cancel dont forget you need to be out of contract to cancel and avoid fees to pay the balance of the contracts .0

The only thing that's insane is the fact that you expect a special offer to go on beyond the period (usually 12 months) stipulated.
No one is forcing you to pay high prices, so either haggle or cancel; in fact it's better to cancel.0 -
If you've read the haggling thread then you already have all the info you need. Nobody will tell you anything different from what you've ready read in there.
Call sky and cancel. You won't get a decent deal until you've actually cancelled.
What's insane is you paying £70 for not very much. Sky aren't going to do anything but continue to up prices.Sigless0 -
Happened to me too, I now have sky landline and broadband for £17.40, no Sky TV but have been able to keep the Sky+ function so can still record things.
I use NowTV now, there's always offers on and it costs me an average of £2 a month for Entertainment package (probably less actually).£15900 loan (including interest) over 3.5 years to pay off...can I do it sooner???

Im sure for every 10 people on these (and other forums) that haggle and drop the price down for Sky or Virgin, there are another 10 that just pay the ever increasing bills without question. Same with insurance at renewal time.
You choose which group you want to be in.0 -

Sadly I expect that it is much much less than 50% who haggle.0 -
Beats me how anyone can pay these insane prices for tripe, fact remains Freeview is free, whilst if you want up today viewing DL from Internet - for what persons are paying you can get a 1T seedbed for a tenner a month and view all the content available - biggest plus of all, it avoids giving money to the likes of Branson and Murdock, so I'm never happier than watch Fox US TV programmes free and in HD if I want, all without bloody adverts!0

....suspect its considerably less than that, maybe 10% ?? - just look at the number of homes who have NEVER swapped Utility cos. to get a cheaper deal -think I first swapped in 2000!- yet I believe ~ two thirds of customers are still on their local company's standard variable deal:(:(Colin_Maybe wrote: »Sadly I expect that it is much much less than 50% who haggle.0 -
