I use mine for the cashback, not life changing sums but over £100pa. So worth it for me.

The one time I've had to call the customer service it was good to be fair.

The lower acceptance means that without the cashback I probably wouldn't bother.

I got mine to collect Avios which has enabled me once to upgrade flights for the wife and I from PE to business class. However since the devaluation in the BA Avios programme a while back it will probably take a good few years to collect enough to do that again. That said I regularly use the exclusive offers and have received circa £300 in cashback over the last 12 months. They also offer good customer service in my experience.

By buying Gift Cards, you can effectively use it in more places. For example. I bought Netflix Giftcards with my Amex at Tesco.

Netflix accept AMEX... I pay my monthly sub with it!

Platinum cashback credit card here too.

    Advantages for me:
    - Cashback standing at £185 so far this year.
    - no fee
    - Great customer service
    - Great web site (desktop and app) with instant notifications on transactions
    - A decent credit limit that just got increased by £4k unasked
    - Special cashback offers - I made £47 in December from offers and ShopSmall
    - 0% for 21 months on purchases
    - £28 from topcashback when I took it out

    Negatives are:
    - Acceptance (so I have a MC for backup)

    LOL, yeah minor issue really.

    -£185 so far this year?
So 50p a day then. Wow! you'll be a millionaire in no time :rotfl:

    - Great web site (desktop and app) with instant notifications on transactions
What, just in case you forget you just used it 10 seconds ago?

Everything else on the list is offered across all other major players

As i said, Amex are experts in marketing.

sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

so we are on an MSE site and you are saying that getting £185 for free isn't worth it? I don't know of any other card giving 1.25% CB plus 5% on the first chunk (forgotten how much)

It's £185 more than most credit cards on the market pay.

£185 cashback over three days seems pretty impressive to me!

it's a fair question. i've been carrying an Amex card for 12 years. their CS is great. and they have been the best payers of cashback in the market. i'm a big fan.. but, recent changes mean that they are not so beneficial:think:

The 1.25% isn't the base cashback rate and the 5% is for around 3 months (unless the offer has been updated). Therefore, isn't as good as you'd suggest & the better earning cashback card has an annual fee.

Customer service wise - I found Amex on a par with MBNA.
