  • very intersting thread - Oh went shopping the other night to make us spag bowl and bought Sainsburys taste the difference mince (bless him he wants to cook the best for me) and it was horrible. Couldnt tell him but it was really fatty and huge bits. I like lean mince which is about £1.12 a packet or Morrisons own brand which is really good.

Oh my, if I let my DH go shopping all by himself we'd be feasting on sirloin steak and fresh cream cakes for days

I can never let him go unaccompanied anymore....

Rog, my DH would definately not drink tap water

Maybe I shall boil some water up and bottle it in the fridge and see if he notices the difference ;)

Makes you wonder how he managed as a child - I'll bet his parents didn't buy bottled water.
It is true, I grant him, that some Water Companies add a lot of 'chlorine' or 'fluoride' to their water, although quantities are strictly governed, and this can give a 'taste', but usually, if you leave overnight in the fridge, you can't taste a thing.
Also, if that fails, a water filter (we have a Brita 'jug' that fits in the fridge) will give totally filtered water for around 4p a liter.

  • No one should knock value products until they try them, should they? I used to be a brand snob, but desperation at the amount of our debts forced me into buying value products, and then I felt very foolish for not buying them before!

Oh the money I have wasted over the years buying Heinz, etc. How many holidays could I have had? How much savings could I have accumulated? Well not any more. Heinz is history as far as I am concerned!

My only compaint is that Tesco don't do enough value products!!! I buy practically every value product that they do, and it's just not enough!!!

I have found that an out of town Tesco Extra does the most value products, so I always shop there.

There are a few basic products that we use but i guess it's a case of trial & error. Nearly everything we buy is the supermarket brand(the one in between the top brand & the basic brand),which we find tastes just as good as the top brand. The basic foods we usually buy are beans, tinned tomatoes, biscuits & lemonade, which all taste o.k. in my opinion.

You guys really need to start checking out the discount code threads that relate to Tescos. You can, if you've got the brass neck, get your shopping for next to nothing.
