We will soon be making a joint Universal Credit claim, which I would presume would be contribution based as both of us have been working in the past 12 months for 6 months+.
Are we entitled to free NHS costs at all? EG: Dentists & Prescriptions.

UC is means-tested ie there is no such thing as conts-based UC online.
I assume you will have to claim contribution-based JSA. I don't think this can be done online and so will have to be done 'administratively' ie by DWP staff over the 'phone or at a JobCentre Plus office. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

If its contribution based NO, you wont be entitled you can apply for the low income scheme and go through their means testing0 -
Some information on Contribution-based JSA:
http://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/jobseekers-allowance
As Mersey stated UC only replaces Income-based JSA not CB JSA.
It would be worth checking if you have the required NI contributions to claim CB JSA (otherwise it will be UC), as DWP operatives don't seem very clued up on this.
If it is CB JSA, then should you need to claim HB, the LA would adminster this not the DWP through UC.
If CB JSA, then this is the form for help with health costs:

And some info:
