hi i am after some advice on office software.
i have an excel document which has some formulas and was created in ms office ( not sure exactly what version ) the extension is xlsl.
is it safe to use openoffice as i have a new pc without office installed? the spreadsheet opens ok but if i make a change and save it it says i have to choose a new format, such as odf or different versions of ms office csv etc.
should i stick with ms office and pay for the correct version, if so where can i buy it as cheap as poss. or am i totally safe using openoffice and if so what format should i save in?thanks

Do you have an outlook/hotmail email account? If you don't you can easily create one and once you have you can have access to Office applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint etc.0

Depends on how important to you information held in the s/sheet is. Open Office might support all the formula in the cells and save the data to .odf without losing stuff.
If it's a very simple s/sheet you'll probably be OK.
If it's just a one-off need, you can get a 30 day free trial of MS Office - https://products.office.com/en-gb/try0 -

Use free Excel Online after creating an Outlook/Hotmail email account0 -
thanks for the replies- does excel online have all the functionality of the normal package?0

I think so. Create an outlook enail account and find out what features it has or hasn't got.0

Give WPS Office (also free) a try before you buy anything.
You can try both Libra Office and WPS simultaneously for comparisons and then just uninstall one or both once you've made up your mind....
