Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has used a treatment for fungal nail infection successfully? It's only about half my big toe nail but I want to stop it before it gets worse. Any ideas or suggestions that don't cost the earth? Thanks

See your GP - the surgery will send a clipping off to the lab to identify the problem and prescribe accordingly.0

Whatever it is the treatment can take six or more months0

try Vick's vaporub. Honestly. I tried it and it worked. I recommended it to a chiropodist i work with and after a LONG time she tried it too…..and it works! Google it. Nothing to lose hey?0

Just be aware that a lot of GP's won't bother to send off clippings etc, nor will they write a prescription for fungal nail treatment as this is now available to buy at any pharmacy, so you will be expected to purchase it yourself. And it is quite expensive so check online if you think that you need to buy it.
I have heard that the Vicks vapour rub works really well and as almost everyone has a tub of this (or similar) lurking in the depths of their medicine cabinet, it is definitely worth a go!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Tea tree oil directly on the nail. I'd treat all nails to be on the safe side. Warning though, it still might drop off.
I was told that I needed a lot more time without toe nail polish. Not sure if this is relevant to you though0 -
Thanks guys. I've had it to for years. Tried the vinegar approach so now I'll give the vapo rub a go!In debt no more!0

Reminds me of a poster for a nail salon I saw recently - FUN GAL Exquisite Nails - I kid you not.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Yuk. I had problems for years, and it slowly spread. Toe nails were horrible. The various creams at the chemist at the time provided some relief and marginal perceived improvement but did not bring about any cure.
Eventually went to GP and got a fungicidal cream. These are now available over the counter.
The cream didn't provide as much relief as the other things I tried BUT the foot started to improve. It took nearly six months before my feet were back to normal. I had normal healthy toe nails for first time in many years - forgotten what that your be like (amazing what you get used to with gradual change).A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but ignorance is lethal.0 -

Yes tea tree oil is quite cheap in some places like pound shops now -- used to cost a lot more.
I saw somewhere offering laser treatment for fungal toenail recently.. wonder how well that works?0 -
