A bit far fetched but an easy read, I am just delighted to have refound my love of reading....got given a load of books which need reading and passing on, so I am going to put Kindle down and read a real book (I prefer books). I was given a Dermot O'Leary Book as a secret santa gift a couple of years ago .... I think this is my next read

Phew, I've eventually finished The Goldfinch.
At times, I thought it was very good. However, there is too much cod-philosophy, as if Donna Tartt is trying to do a Dr. Zhivago. Sadly, she is no Pasternak.
Edit to add: I do,think it would make a good film, though. Theodore's initial mistake, as well as the dreadful incident, sets off a train of twists.

Beautifully written, the stories of four strangers interweave and interconnect in a thoroughly fascinating way. The narrative of their common thread is propelled through four different points of view, giving a well-paced and satisfying reading experience, and the depth of characterisation of each person leaves the reader wanting to discover even more of them.
Set in London.
And not a spoiler in sight in that little critique.
Read it. You'll be glad you did.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
The Poppy Factory - poor stuff, in spite of it being sought after in our library.
Formulaic, chic-lit with a cause, I suppose. Not looking forward to discussing it in book group.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I've just re-read "When Hitler stole Pink Rabbit" by Judith Kerr, after hearing a bit of Rosemary Leach reading it on Radio 4 extra. It's a trimmed-down account of her family's refugee years, ending when they arrive in the UK, where she still is, as a 90 something all these years later. It's a much more entertaining book than it sounds, as it's written from the child's perspective. It kept me going through a long train journey, and possibly explained the origin of Mog, her later famous character. It's illustrated with some of her own little sketches. For adults, it's a quick read, as originally intended for older children. I'd recommend it for the people interested in the second world war.0
