Oh, loved The Invention of Wings!

In fact, I think I'll add it to the request list for the book group.

7/10. I found the anatomical explanations early in the book basic and tedious, but the last third was redeeming, offering historical insight. Strangely there was some commonality with the Kate Adie I'd read a few days before! I think this probably enhanced my enjoyment of the book, as did the human side of things. Mortuary technicians are very professional, and to be commended.

  • I'm going to see what book I can finish today. I know I started a few books on my kindle at the same time (bad habit of mine:o) so I will try and finish one at least today.

I like Saturday mornings as I usually catch up with the Think, Save, Retire blog and the Monevator blog too.:)

Haven't read the book but saw the programme last year when it was on Fox tv, or should I say my DH did. I half watched it. Worth watching.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

really good, and not the outcome I predicted :0)

I've not come across this author before, and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, 'persons unknown' and a 'stand alone' called 'Homecoming'.

I seem to be stalling on crime/similar type fiction at the moment. I keep picking up other books from the library but can't get into anything!

I'm reading 'persons unknown' at the moment, and although I will finish it, not sure I will particularly bother with reading any more in this series.

I've just read a JD ROBB ' In Death ... ' I thought I'd read them all, but was pleasantly surprised to find one I hadn't! ( but can't remember the title now! ) I enjoy Eve Dallas and all her friends, and reading about life in whichever year it is! 2060something!
  • Just finished this.

In the small settlement of Motherlode, a group of disparate characters have set up a community, held together by the formidable Emaline, hostess of the Wayside Inn. It is there that Alex, on the run from something and disguised as a teenage boy, finds refuge. But once she strikes gold, buried secrets are revealed and danger surrounds her.

An interesting insight into how communities emerged around potentially successful gold seams. Emaline is a natural entrepreneur. :D

Bought this brand new from a charity bookshelf in Tesco for 30p. There seem to be a lot of these around lately - my MnS FoodHall has one, and I've seen them in other shops as well. They are unmanned but there's an 'honesty box' for payment, as well as an invitation to add donations of unwanted books to the stock.

  • Reading "Good Me Bad Me" a first novel from Ali Land. It's told with the voice of a 15/16year old girl now being fostered while her mother is on trial for killing nine children. She was a witness to the killings and I'm now at the point where she has to give evidence against her mother.
    Gripping and compulsive reading. Recommended.
    Normal people worry me.
  • I've read a few books since I was last on.

fantasy: not a genre I'd usually choose, but I did enjoy this. It's the first in a series, so I may even read the rest!

just started this one; again I'd not normally choose it, but it's fine so far.

8/10. It took me a ridiculously long time to read this - started in June but made an effort and read the remaining 200 pages this weekend. Because I have a theoretical interest in economics, this really brought policy to life. I was much less fussed about his personal than political life, the book was littered with justifications that sounded like a bunch of excuses. But the insight into resilience was the initial reason I wanted to read it, and I was not disappointed.
