Indie when I was wearing office appropriate dresses, quite a few were M&S, Principles and Hobbs, with a couple of Planet ones too. I agree about Phase Eight, and nearly all of their shifts have round necklines which are not flattering on me :(
    D

Yes, I prefer a scoop or cowl neck but not a low one and that's not easy to find. I do like Hobbs, haven't tried Principles for ages - they used to have too wide shoulders relative to hips for me but that might have changed over the years. I have had the odd success in Precis (Planet for the vertically challenged), got a really nice shaped jersey dress in there a couple of autumns ago. It's not my best colour as the background is black but enough of the print is teal that I got away with it. It's too big for me now, but I got a lot of wear out of it when it did fit so I shouldn't complain. I love that silky jersey that doesn't need any ironing!

    Hi fabbers, I'm loving all the positivity and good progress;
indie well done on your weight loss
hex I hope you find your perfect jeans.
ll I'm pleased your lunch with your sister went well.
flossyour cafe Nero trip is making me want one.

Well done to everyone else and their endeavours.

I've had a busy morning. The children break up today so I've just had lunch with them at school. I wore my new bargain Gap top, which I bought yesterday. I saw they had a sale on so grabbed a few t shirts for DS (£3 each) and my tank top for £6 (cotton). I've had a couple of people say I've lost weight recently, but I haven't weighted myself in a while.
  • `marks and spensers drive me up the wall. I dont think they know women. The range is too frumpy for a lot of women, even 70-80 years olds are too hip for their styles. They are marketing to a strange demographic of women who i don't see in the street. I really want a place to buy great quality basics.

a lot of people want well cut, well designed pieces... think parisain fashion that is ageless and stunning. I dont want this stuff they sell.

Quite agree with the comments on M & S - they have definitely lost the plot

I used to buy most of my clothes from there a few years ago but I go in there now (or look online) and nothing inspires me.

Glad you meeting with your Sister went OK LL.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad day yesterday SFT - you have the right attitude about putting it behind you and starting the new day afresh.

We are having a home-check from an RSPCA officer tomorrow so that we can re-home a cat from their local shelter - can't foresee any problems but fingers-crossed (you may remember that we lost our cat a few weeks ago and the house seems so empty without him )

Have a lovely weekend ladies - I think we are in for a lovely one weather-wise :j

I forget to say welcome to jenny. If you're reading please join in. Everyone must have an M&S story to tell!!:rotfl:

I really don't like being in there any more. If I go in for some food or in the vain hope that the knickers I like will be back I stock I star feeling very uncomfortable. During the week it seems populated by geriatric versions of Stepford wives all dressed the same in variations of greige anoraks:eek:.

maman re bra in tkmax every time i have to grab the full rack of bras and them into a fitting room as the sizes vary a huge amount; I find that there is a lot if variation between brands. I used a new padded bra... it is so effective the coat could not fit on the bust! (bad day)
Sorry you had a bad day sft.:grouphug: You're absolutely right about different brands coming up differently I always try them on. I commented on the strap feeling too tight indie but as the fitter pointed out I'm used to wearing old, stretched bras and the new one will give a bit with washing. LL's famous attention to posture is important too.;)

LL, I think it's probably a mixture of stress as well as some physical issues that's getting you down. Although you coped well with lunch yesterday, you'd probably tensed yourself up beforehand.

I've had a good day today. I took a bag of stuff to the CS and also treated myself to a couple of bits. It's not my usual CS but as I'd parked in the local High Street I went to a different one as I think the Cancer Research one does very well as they have a car park and their prices are getting a bit greedy. I bought a denim skirt (M&S limited edition) and a royal blue, cap sleeved White Stuff top for £5! The skirt does have buttons up the front but it suits me and it'll tide me over while I dither about buying one.

I really do need to have a wardrobe cull and look at gaps I need to fill for the summer season but no plans to stay indoors while the sun shines.:D

Forgot to say indie I do Scottish country dancing. So reels and jigs. My old class had gone steadily downhill because of ill health of the leader. The new class is brilliant. We dance for 2 hours almost non stop and it's exhilarating. I love it!

Ah, the kind of thing you would do at a ceilidh is that? If that's what you mean it's certainly energetic. When I've been up to Edinburgh for the festival with my social club they have a ceilidh the first night and it's pretty full on - the Scots are very good and take it quite seriously. I don't think they are so impressed with us southerners and our relative lack of stamina.

I used to do what we called country dancing as a kid - lots of dosey do-ing and stripping the willow and all that sort of thing. We mainly did it because it was super cheap. I don't think the guy running it could even have covered the cost of the hall he charged so little - was 10p per week and even the 35 odd years ago this would have been, 10p wasn't much money. I seem to recall he had said he did it to give his daughters something to do in the evening. Anyway, we were hard up so no chance of doing ballet and tap and that sort of thing, but even we could find that sort of money. Can't remember why we stopped going - maybe he stopped the classes when his daughters got too old for it?

    Hello Ladies,

I am still keeping up with all of your posts, but I am busy deep cleaning my brother's flat. He is really appreciative and feels guilty even though I tell him to behave, as no one is 'holding a gun to my head'.

Our family has been going on about how he is struggling and how dirty and messy his flat had got, but no one wanted to take action. I just decided that enough was enough and am doing it on my own. I am also spending quite a bit of money replacing most of his kitchen equipment and new small appliances.

It is a bit of a bus man's holiday for me, but it is really satisfying and it is the best exercise for me as well. I usually get too lazy in the holidays from work.

sugar what a,nice person you are, to do that for your brother.

No sooner has DS gotten over the chicken pox than its DDs turn. I noticed a few spots appearing this morning and so I had to cancel a playdate I'd arranged for her. Luckily for us, she is on Easter holidays so we have childcare. Unluckily for DD, she doesn't get her week off school!!!

Chanie when I was small, and also when my boys were small (now 29 & 31) mums had "chicken-pox parties" to encourage the virus to be shared & get it over with, but I remember that our boys got it one after the other like your littlies.
