Question for those of you who post on the no buying unnecessary toiletries thread - are you finding it's helping you cut back? I was going to join up again as I have a dreadful stockpile, but I was starting to suspect when I was on it before that hearing about all the nice things other people had and the special offers was actually encouraging me to buy more sometimes. Then when I looked on the front page of the thread I noticed hardly anyone was listed as having graduated for ages so I wondered if it wasn't just me that found that.
I have been posting on the unnessesary cosmetics section, it makes me thing when i go shopping do i need it and can i use it up. I have asked people to not get me cosemtics as i want to pan a pallette and it helps me. I know that a year a go i did nuy loads more but i have seen really sensible. I have cut back so much. However, more importantly i feel that i enjoy what i have more and can use it better,
I find it makes you stop and be more proud of finishing skin creams, rather than having a load of nice packaging. I had a light bulb moment when a lipstick saved for good wear fell to bits and was rank. it showed me use it on my fave and enjoy it daily not save for best. If i spend now it will be on somthing that willl be used up.
when i first started posting i had huge tubs of stuff to use up now its much less.0 -

Evening all
I have been to the gym and done body attack but other than that I've been very lazy! Lounging around lots which was nice.
Still chilling on the sofa but going to have a long bath and exfoilate all over and defuz. Will also going to slather some body butter. Going to aim for nightly all week then next weekend will start on the gradual tan.
Aim this week is to book in for smear test. Will also see if I can get a lump on my forehead looked at. It looks like a mole but skin colour but has got bigger and is sore if I poke it. Not sure what it is:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
clippy_girl - fingers crossed it's just a really deep spot
I got out for a run today. I'm not going to lie and say I enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish but my body and mind both feel good to be out there and it was a lot easier than the previous one.
It occurred to me to check my weight from our holiday at the end of June last year, the reason being that my holiday clothes are a certain size and I'd put on over a stone between then and Christmas. To get back exactly where I was, I need to lose 11lbs and we go on the 18th Feb. I'm not sure whether I can do that as I thought I'd hit another plateau but I will give it my best shot as I am not buying a new bikini. :rotfl:
I'd like some recommendations for keeping fingernails healthy, from those of you that paint them regularly. I haven't painted mine since October as I found that the surface would peel easily and always looked rough/scratched. I was using Vinylux and the CND polish remover which is meant to be gentle BUT it also removes Shellac.0 -
Hello!
I've never really posted in here before but a little about me. I'm a 27 year old female who has got heavier over the years and as I have no scales at home I lose track of the pounds piling up.
It wasn't until Monday just gone where I weighed myself on some gym scales and realised I was the heaviest I've ever been. 5 foot 6 and 12 stone 12lb. I literally couldn't believe it.
I go to the gym but think that I can eat like a pig as a result. Sadly my metabolism isn't good to me anymore.
My new year's resolution was 'double triple X' at the gym which is 2 gym classes back to back, 3 days a week for 10 weeks. As each gym class is 45 minutes we are talking 4.5 hours a week.
I have been extra good this week as I have done 8 gym classes and did 2 hours of gardening today planting bulbs.
Whilst I don't pay for weight watchers, I will weigh myself at the gym each Monday evening to check my progress.
In an ideal world i'd like to be 11 stone but I'm not sure how achievable this is. I want to lose as much weight as possible before my Italian trip to the Amalfi Coast in June so I'm not the one with the jiggly thigh wobble going on.
It's the chocolate that lets me down though. The meals out, the treats at work, hell even the free coffee machine coffees in work can't be good for me.
My first day back at work after Christmas I could barely zip my work dress up so I know something has to change.Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000

For me the very act of recording and posting my use ups and purchases does help me reign in how much and what I buy and reading of the regimes of others does encourage me to finish things, rather than get bored and just open something else, I make a note of products which might suit my in readiness for the time when I really need a new item. I am not convinced that for others it is not too enabling:(savingfortomorrow wrote: »I have been posting on the unnessesary cosmetics section, it makes me thing when i go shopping do i need it and can i use it up. Thanks Maddiemay and Savingfortomorrow interesting to hear what you have got from the thread. I am doing quite well on the working through things till they are finished front and I don't tend to save any toiletries or make up for best. I had a good clear out of old make up a while back and am generally doing a decent job of resisting buying back - got a lot less than I used to have., though maybe still a bit more than I need. Not enough to feel embarassed by anyway.
Toiletries.... hmmm, that's where the issue is - volume and how long it's been there. I have mainly switched over to buying beauty products that are from what I call "healthy ranges" - e.g. getting shower gels and shampoos that don't have SLS, body lotions that don't have petroleum derivatives in - generally buy from health food shops and online. However, I haven't thrown out the pre switch over stash as I find it hard to throw anything away (the make up I did with some of with the help of colour consultant who told me which purchases were a mistake for my colouring). I also have a lot of part used sample sizes from my travels.
I have finished up quite a few things already this year though so maybe I will try doing on my own for now and not get on the thread. Probably not going to pick up too many tips for products given I won't buy most mainstream brands now.Southernman wrote: »Hello!

Welcome. Well, you have a few months to tone up and look at what you are eating before your holiday so that's a nice target to aim for - maybe not quite your goal weight, but heading nicely in that direction.
I have plenty of weight to lose (half a stone more than you and I am two inches shorter) and I am now realising (after decades of failing to shift the weight I want to), I need to focus on just why I am overeating and put in place strategies to manage those triggers. So for example I am far more likely to indulge in treats at work if I am hungry, so taking my own healthier snacks in means I am less likely to be tempted when someone has brought in cakes for their birthday.
I have a lot of triggers so I have a lot of strategies to work out and it's going to take a while to bed down those new healthy habits, but I am hopeful it will lead to success. Certainly just beating myself up every time I eat something "bad" hasn't worked for me, so I might as well try something new.
Busy day ahead (come to that, probably a busy week) so I will sign off here and wish you all a fab week xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Many thanks for all the good wishes for our cat - he had a fairly comfortable weekend and is doing as well as can be expected.
Must try and get my head back in to things this week - tears shed over the weekend have made my face & eyes a bit puffy  Will try and do a face mask tonight and spend some time trying out that face massage that a few of you use - I watched the link that you posted Maman - do you do the full massage every day?
Welcome Southernman :hello:
Sounds like you had a great time at your new Karoke Sugarbaby
Take care all x0 -
Hello Ladies,
It was such a lovely evening for me at The Roundhouse theatre in Camden. My elder son bought tickets for all of us as our main Christmas presents. We saw Zoonation's The Mad Hatter's Tea Party and it was an enthralling explosion of music, narration and dance. :j We all loved it and we ranged in age from 54 years old to 10 years old. There were 10 family members in our group. It was a really inspired choice for a Christmas present for all of us. :T My elder son is not keen on going to the theatre, so it was an unexpected present.
I love going to the theatre, I rarely go to the West End, as I like to see shows that are modestly priced. I do sometimes get free tickets to theatre shows which allows me to see shows that I would otherwise have missed out on.
I made an effort and wore some bronze brown eye shadow and black mascara. I layered my perfume as well with the matching body lotion. I wore my purple velour long M & S Autograph skirt with a sleeveless black cowl neck velour top, my purple Kaliko cardigan and my black leather ankle boots. I wore solid gold hoop earrings, gold and diamonique ring, bracelet and chain and 3D effect crucifix. I wore my black wool coat with velvet cuffs and collar. I also wore a black scarf and my black leather gloves.
It was a rainy cold day in London, but I was really warm while feeling well dressed.
I am hoping to go to some shows at Battersea Arts Centre in the coming weeks. They have an eclectic mix on shows on offer in the coming weeks. As my younger daughter works there, she will get the tickets at a discount.0 -
I've been thinking about forming habits this weekend. I've always been a list maker and I had a "things I'd like to do this week" page in a notebook on the go constantly. Then I did the 6-day mindfulness challenge that I linked near the start of this thread and one of the outcomes of that was I stopped making lists. I realised that the lists were only encouraging Bertha (my mind) to put pressure on to get things done, and Bertha would harp on with her negative thinking if I didn't complete everything on the list.
Yet a couple of weeks ago I downloaded a to-do list app and today there are/were 11 things on it. These range from applying perfume to cancelling some insurance.
What I've decided is that I'll continue to use the app but once I no longer need to be prompted to do something, I won't put it on. So my daily weigh ins are not on the app and neither is a reminder to take my contraceptive pill, because I do both of those religiously. So once applying perfume becomes automatic, I'll take it off and potentially replace it with another habit I want to ingrain.
Better go - the kittens are attacking the dish sponge again.0 -
What a lovely Christmas present sugarbaby and with a show so early in January that the family didn't have to wait long for their evening out. I rarely go to full price shows in the West End either. Generally we either go to Guildford where they have previews for plays that then transfer to London or I go to the Leicester Square ticket booth and get cheaper tickets there. That's often good for things coming to the end of a run or on a very long run.
sukey, my plan is to do the massage every day if I can. I've done quite well so far. Hex gave me the link and she says she does it as a wind down but I've been doing it in the morning as it makes me wake up! I might try it in the evening for days when mornings are too busy. If you start the clip from the beginning of the actual massage (skip ad and chatter) then it's only about 6 minutes.
Interesting what you've posted about lists and habits DD. It doesn't do any harm to reflect positively on what you've achieved and has become habit but lists do IMO need to be of new challenges.
I haven't joined the thread especially for using up products but I have been trying to follow the principles for a while. It started with doing MK on my bathroom cupboard and making sure all categories were stored together and I knew exactly what I had. Then I (because I had been guilty of keeping stuff for 'best') went off to the Clarins counter and got advice on using all the items I'd acquired as gifts and I'm working through those. I now try not to buy anything until I've used up everything that comes under that category. I have realised I've got a few small plain body lotions (from gift packs) so I plan to use them up before buying a new one to mix and match with the tanning one. I'm also almost out of moisturiser (two jars: 1 Aldi and 1 Benefit went to the recycling today) so will go into the city later in the week as the final one (Clarins) is almost empty too.
Today I've had a shower, styled my hair and creamed all over. Later I'll put on light make up and smart casual with a skirt for my dance class. It'll be a red wool skirt with black jumper and a thick black cardy as the heating is temperamental. I've also made an appointment with the beautician I went to with Groupon for another facial, discounted in a January offer so very mse:money:. This time I'm having some steaming to try to clear blocked pores.
Hope the cycling lesson went well indie?0
