maman pleased your trip to the hairdressers was successful. I’ve never thought about small businesses and cash flow. I must admit, I whack most things on my debit card anyway, but I always pay cash at the hairdressers.

Sugar I hope you get a good rest this half term, with lots of fun activities planned. Being out and about is also a good way to burn some calories too!!

I’ve just come come from running some errands. Had to take the car to the garage, but this meant hanging around whilst it as being looked at, so I popped to a cafe for some breakfast (scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast). One of my errands was to return something in Costco and whilst I was there, I picked up some thermal jogging bottoms for £13. Since our recent discussions about loungewear, I’ve really been thinking about getting some comfy items and these ones fit nicely - I may get some more when I next go.

One final thing I need to offload. I had three watches which needed new batteries. I’ve had them sitting in a drawer for ages as we keep forgetting. I popped into Timsons and they quoted me £50 for them and my jaw was on the floor. The watches cost about £100-£300 each, so not hugely expensive, but not cheap either. I hook them to a local shoe repair shop and had them done for £14. Maman paid in cash.

Chanie we use Timpsons for our watch batteries (DHs Kenneth Cole & Hugo Boss and my Gucci, Fossil, Rotary & Accurist)...we bought their "lifetime batteries" which basically is a ticket with the watch details on that is produced every time a battery needs replacing. IIRC the last one last Feb was £17ish but thats for the life of the watch. Their normal replacement cost was about £14ish then.

I seem to recall reading Timpson's branches all have the power to set their own prices - in Central London near my office I have paid about £30 for the lifetime batteries. I think the place in Peckham I go to now charges more like £5 - £7 per battery I think. So my newer watches go there, any I have shelled out for the lifetime ones I take to work with me.

That's interesting about the watch batteries. I've used the local shoe repairer over the years but they've just closed down due to retirement. I'll check out Timpson's next time. I'm sure there's one attached to Debenhams.
  • Hello Ladies,

I decided to stay at home this evening and postpone going out dancing until Sunday. I am so tired and aching, so it made more sense to have a relaxing, restful evening.

I get my watch batteries from my local shoe repair shop. I will have to see if there is a Timpsons local to me, as their 'lifetime batteries' sound like a really good deal. :)
  • i have been looking for a watch that is nickle free.. does anyone have any recommendations. Price is not a huge issue as if i can wear it will the best value.

Hello lovely ladies. Well I’m back and I have had the most wonderful time. This was my third solo cruise and it has been the best. No tears, no sadness, no melancholy just a wonderful time visiting some pretty ports, La Rochelle, Bilbao and La Coruna were my favourites and I enjoyed my revisit to Lisbon, not that bothered about Gibraltar but I had fun.

There was an elderly lady on our table (she lives less than 10miles away and is my new surrogate Mummy) :rotfl: anyway she hadnt managed to get ashore due to mobility issues so I took her shopping in Gibraltar and we had a lovely afternoon. Speaking of watches I bought a very pretty watch for £8 there and they threw in an extra battery for free.

The weather was glorious and the dress and fur cape were a real hit. Even the gorgeous Greek ships captain gave me a very approving look. I felt very glamorous. Lol.

I have had a quick read through and am loving all the chat and gossip but I think I can top it.....

Have I got news for you.!!!!

There were quite a few single males on the cruise - the song “Raining Men” springs to mind........and I had a lovely time flirting with quite a few of them. ;)

But, as you might guess from my little clue about the “Tale of two J*hns” not one, but two gentlemen called J*hn came a courting..........:rotfl:

I had a nice flirtation with J1. He is a lovely man but not the “right man” if you catch my drift. So we left it that we would be friends rather than have a romance.

However, unbeknownst to me J2 was watching from the wings and biding his time.......He declared his interest on the last night of the cruise.......

Now J2 is definitely an interesting proposition .......apparently he thought that J1 and I had become a couple so he hadn’t made a move believing he had been pipped at the post by J1.

As we were about to disembark this morning he came to say goodbye and I was able to put his mind at rest that J1 and I were not a couple. His face lit up and he said that “oh good the door is open then”. We had to part very quickly for our respective onward journeys but he gave me a lovely hug and a delicious farewell kiss......

    So maybe.........;)

Not sure how it will pan out but he lives around 50 miles from here so maybe we can get together and see if we can make it happen.

At the moment he is full on at work (he’s an IT consultant like my Late husband). He is currently on a major project and spends a lot of time in London during the week so not quite sure how we can develop a romance. Long distance relationships can be difficult and they can easily falter but I guess there’s no harm in trying. I shall just have to see what happens.

Still, even if it doesn’t work out, it has proved one thing. At least I know now that I am capable of being attracted to a new man. I can still treasure my husbands memory whilst allowing another man into my life. I am ready.

    Watch this space. :rotfl:
