Been fairly busy with minimising. Have wanted a couple of items, some to charity shop and binned some other stuff. I have also hang up pictures and the house is more homely.
In the garden some tree branches have been cut down and wood stored.

Made do with food in the house and veg from the garden and helped by the eggs from the chickens.
I have looked at my clothes and started wearing different combinations of tips and skirts/ trousers. It makes a change.

Not much mending other than really concentrating on keeping my back fairly pain free.

Used up some eggs for breakfast as I don't want to leave them in the fridge when we go on holiday on Friday.

Mended a lamp that the fuse had blown on :)

Trying my best to minimise the fresh food in the fridge :)

    Afternoon Folks,

Just lost a post  ran out of charge!

Make do: Had a BBQ for pet sitters. Made do with what was in the fridge and freezer, apart from a few bits. Living on leftovers until we go on hols.

Mend: Found a maxi dress in Oxfam. £4 instead of the £40 for a similar one I was looking at in Joe Browns. Just had to take up the hem!

Minimise: packed the case and used the opportunity to fill another bag for the CS, more for EBay listing and a few bits for the sewing pile.

    See you soon!:)

    Morning MMMers

It looks to be a lovely day here so the washing machine is on. Got a load done yesterday morning too. I'm finding it really hard to dry stuff in the flat as we've no tumble drier and it's too warm for the heating to go on so trying to take advantage of any sunny/windy day.

Trying to minimise food out of the freezer for meals, partly because I'd like to defrost it at some point soon and partly because there is a miniscule amount of money left in the food budget for this month. We had honey and mustard pork chops for tea last night. Tonight will be chicken although haven't quite decided what to do with it yet.

My running is going well and is definitely helping to minimise me, I've lost a few more pounds. Think I might have to go through my wardrobe again and put anything that's too big to the CS.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :D

Making do with the food we already have in and aiming to have an empty fridge by this time next week before we go off on holiday. All going to plan, so far.

A little bit of mending that consisted of sewing hanging loops on some new tea towels and also sewing the loose hem on a face cloth that's been bugging me every time I use/wash it. Only took 2 minutes, :rotfl:

An unintentional minimise yesterday when I broke my glass lidded butter dish that I've had for 48 years :o . Bought back in the day when girls had "bottom drawers", for the princely sum of 5 shillings (25p). It's survived numerous house moves so I guess it doesn't owe me anything but I was so sad to see it go. :(
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • At last it has stopped raining 'up north'! Saw further evidence of north/south divide on Saturday. Went down to London to go to an art exhibition. Left home in torrential rain (which apparently lasted most of the day) and arrived in London to the sun cracking the flags. Travelling back as soon as we past Watford Gap on the train the grey skies were back.
There are men about to 'mend' my garage roof and I am so excited as they have ordered a skip. God that sounds so sad but it means I can start to clear the garage when they have finished and put it in the skip. I don't drive so I can't get to the tip.
So that can also count as minimising as well. Sorted through my wardrobe again and put more stuff on fleabay. Two large bags ready to go to the charity shop as well. Need to get up in the loft and start to go through the boxes but at the moment it is a case of out of sight out of mind. Also been picking the blackberries and the rhubarb is ready for another cull.
After walking around the posh areas of London for about 4 hours I think the mending is myself as my hips are killing me but I must keep moving or I stiffen up and that's not good.
Bank holiday next weekend, yippee as it means a car boot sale nearby if it doesn't rain.
    Happy MMM
  • Hi, osbornbiscuit. It's been raining plenty down here too :( I was on the phone to my Mum in Spain a week ago and she was complaining about the heat. I hung up the phone and it started hailstone-ing here

Making do with the contents of the freezer. Both our cars are out of action and the monthly shop is due! I've been surprised by how many meals I can make with the "nothing" in the fridge. I might not be so hasty to do a big shop after payday coz I think I could manage a whole week without shopping for anything other than meat (which we buy locally anyway) and some veggies. I've been lucky enough to benefit from my friend's glut of green beans and our blackberry bush going crazy.

Mend, my car needs the handbrake fixing. It's going to the mechanic tomorrow. That'll minimise my emergency fund which I don't think is really in the spirit of this thread but needs must...:D I mended a dog toy that needed sewing and had been sitting in my drawer for ages. :T:T
I'm planning to paint the rendered parts on the front of my house this week it's been peeling for years and some bits have never been painted since a damp repair years ago.

Minimising, hopefully the number of red mites in the chicken coop:mad:- horrible things. Poor chickens.

    Well done everyone...

Afternoon all. The weather down here is overcast and VERY humid - not nice! However, 1 load of washing done, one load dry and put away. My tomatoes seem to have been a bit hit and miss this year - I think its because the weather has been so variable. Lots of them were splitting despite being regularly watered so last night I sliced them and roasted a large trayful with some good olive oil. They've now been bagged and put in the freezer for some winter meals.
Minimised some of the apple tree by distributing to neighbours!
Tried to mend a beautiful bowl I have - its porcelain and Ive tried 3 types of glue and none of them will hold - grateful for any suggestions. Ive tried Superglue, Gorilla Glue and an all purpose glue!! Run out of ideas.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Hi!

I have a question for you wonderful people.

I have an old tent, (misused by a family member, wrapped up wet and not cleaned or dried properly) and it found it's way into our attic just like that. It wasn't my tent - it was my brother's but he didn't take it with him when he moved out, and it stayed at my parents', who lent it to someone and knowing nothing about tents, put it back in the attic just as they were given it back. I'm angry about such carelessness nonetheless. You'd think if you borrowed something, you'd look after it!

I've just dug it out to see if it can be salvaged, but it's been in that condition for several years, ( I didn't even know it was still there until recently).

ANYWAY, I'm trying to clear the house of "stuff" we don't need, I have my own camping gear, but in an ideal world a "free spare" would have been fab. I also hate the idea of landfilling anything that could be saved.

There is a small tear which I can probably duct tape, but my question is that is there anything that can be done to save it? The colour of the fly and the inner has bled onto other parts of the tent including the netting, I'm guessing the water has caused deterioration of the material and so is it worth trying to clean and reproof it? Or would it be a waste of time and energy?

    Thank you in advance!

Smarter personally I would bin it - the chances are it was already past its best when last used, and storage will not have helped it.
