Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2017

  • Up early today as minding DGD (age 2) for the day.

Here's my MMM for the last couple of days:

Make Do: Needed a pair of thick black leggings for work (has to black - dress code).Being reluctant to buy any (hoping to take early retirement soon) I discovered that if I wear my thin black pair over my denim ones (definitely NOT dress code) the effect is that of thick black leggings. Yay. Small victory I know but it made me smile - and kept me warm!

Minimise: Got my wool stash from the loft and sorted through. Lots of stuff I'd completely forgotten about. Set aside a bag of baby wool and random colours for CS and am wondering what to do with rest as there are some nice yarns, merino wool, silk, hand dyed etc. Might knit gloves as Christmas 2017 gifts but wondering if any of it might sell on ebay? Only small amounts - 3 or 4 balls of each - but lovely stuff. Anyone have any experience?

Mend: After a run of appliances breaking over the last few months, we seem to be on top of things at pres - just waiting for a new element to be delivered to fix the grill. Hope I haven't spoken too soon....

    Happy MMMing all.

I minimised my 'man drawer' - though in my case it's a 'woman drawer' .. the one with all the screwdrivers, tape, batteries and odds and sods in. Half empty now! Made my gs a drawstring bag for nursery, the bit that took longest was sewing his initial on using buttons .. looks cute though. Used the last of the xmas bacon so back to normal rations now:)

  • I'm making do by taking leftovers for lunch everyday and therefore making room in the freezer.

I've minimised my larder cupboard, one shelf is now empty,3 to go. All I threw away was a lasagne sheet, one sachet of dried yeast and a few raisins that had dropped on to the bottom shelf.

I haven't done any mending for a while but I am still making my crochet cushion covers.

So sorry to read about your daughter vodkawitch, I can only imagine how painful it must be, please be kind to yourself.

Making do with what's in the freezer, so some "imaginative" meals are appearing on the table.

Mended nothing at all this week - unless filling the gap where the door wont shut on my wooden tool shed (childrens playhouse disguised as a cottage and much beloved by me), with a folded plastic bag counts. There will be a witchhunt directly after dinner tonight to find out who didn't shut the door properly causing it to swell up in the recent rain.

I'm still trying to minimise my body. Managed 11,000 steps today so maybe I've lost a millimetre somewhere?

I have made 5 cards for upcoming birthdays and anniversaries so I've made do with on hand supplies and minimised a bit of the craft stash.
No mending to report - thank goodness!
The longer I am doing this challenge the more I realise how much I need it! And it's not 2 weeks yet, so by the end of the year I should be 'programmed' to at least be more 'mindful' before I buy things.
And the bonus should be more space and empty cupboards.

I thought I'd also join in with this forum, if that's OK? Seems a lot of lurkers have come forward in recent days, so I figure it's time I did too!
I'm looking at a change in financial circumstances in the coming months so am trying to really get organised, and think MMMing will help - or at least doing it on a more consistent basis than I already do.... So here goes:

    Making Do
I've been 'shopping' from my wardrobe and wearing things that have not seen the light of day for some time. Losing a chunk of weight has helped with this!

    Mending
I've sown the little tag thing on my thickest winter coat so I can hang it on a hook again. It came unstitched a couple of weeks ago and has been driving me mad not being able to hang it up. Such a simple task I kept putting off for no reason! So happy I can now hand it up rather than flinging it on a chair or wherever!

    Minimising
Sold 3 tops which are now too big for me on E-bay, helping me make space in the wardrobe and top up the bank balance a little.
Taking note of the contents insurance renewal that came yesterday and searching for alternatives rather than just letting it renew automatically - saving me about £85 for the year.

Keep finding bits of mending to do. Repaired a hole in a jumper. I just wish it was easier to thread needles!!

Minimised content of the freezer some more.

    Morning all
    Hope everyone is well.

Made a veggie hotspot last night and a veggie lasagne for tonight so haven't got to worry about doing tonight's meal later. Didn't get the sewing machine out so will do that at the weekend.

Use did a quick bit of cleaning and some crossstitch after making meals last night.

Going shopping tonight have decided to replace our 30+ year old fridge and freezer with a new combined one that will be more space space saving and economical to run.

Make do: Used up leeks from the allotment and leftover potatoes from last night dinner to make soup lunch, then more veg and bits and pieces to make stew for dinner.

    No mending

But massive MINIISING: decluttered the whole bedroom, decanted a few summer dresses in the spare room wardrobe but have bags and bags of clothes, mine and DH's, to go to charity shops, jumble sale etc. Also got rid of most of the sofa cushions, they are only there to get dusty and create more clutter.

I am really going to have a go at the rest of the house, one room at a time, it feels so good!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
