Bought a Bosch Heat Pump Condenser Tumble Dryer (from John Lewis) at end of October 2016 to replace an old vented dryer, to be located in our garage. 2 weeks ago it started playing up - the drying programs kept stopping shortly after being started. Called out a Bosch engineer who advised the machine was working fine, the problem was it was situated in the garage and Heat Pump Condensers will not work at below an ambient temperature of 5 degrees, which coincided with the very cold weather of late. When we bought the dryer this was not mentioned by the sales assistant , neither does it say this on the product spec of the JL website. As we are unable to keep it in the house due to lack of space it has to stay in the garage so we wanted to exchange it for a different model on the basis that it is not fit for purpose for our requirements ie in this climate there may be long periods of time when it will not work due to temperature issues!. John Lewis are not accepting this and are saying that as there is no fault and we have used it then they will not refund/exchange but surely this comes under Consumer Rights "as described" and "fit for purpose" - the sales assistant sold us the wrong model for our needs - he did not ask where we would be installing it. When we went back to JL to complain another sales assistant we spoke to stated he always asked the customer where they wanted to install it and would not have sold this particular model to us (which is no help of course now)
Any advice anyone please???

"Not fit for purpose" means the tumble dryer would not dry clothes for anyone in any environment.
Your tumble dryer will not work where you have put it. That does not mean it is "not fit for purpose".
You should have done your research properly before buying. I did consider one of these things but I soon changed my mind after reading about them.
