The post may help. There is photos and description of how I made my son a spider outfit. It was for an Ugly Bugs Ball but he also used it for Halloween last year. I am not crafty bit it looked great and was easy to make.
Photo of my 3 year old son as spider
Dear all,
thanks to all your help finally made spider outfit. Sewed six black stuffed tights onto black teeshirt. Made black cape and bought white fabric paint.
Painted spiders web onto cape and teeshirt.
Have enclosed photo of my 3 year old. He was so pleased with it. It brought a tear to my eye to see him swinging his spider legs as they danced at the nursery.
Was really proud of myself for making it myself and saving money.
Have now put it away as I will use it again for Halloween.
Regards
Anne

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I must say thank you to Myrtle - my little boy wants to dress up as a scientist for a school book day, and I was wondering where on earth I could get a lab coat for him. What a coincidence!!!0

I always used to make my two sons Halloween costumes (and my own - I dress up too for when the local kids come to my door)
When my son was about two my husband had just lost his job so we didn't have much money so I dressed him up as Noddy for Halloween.
It was so easy and cost practically nothing.
Blue shorts, longs sleeved red t-shirt,yellow duster round his neck and the only thing I bought was a bit of cheap blue material to make the hat (don't forget the bell at the end) and with the bits left over made sort of "pixie" shoes to go over the top of his trainers.
When my other son was about four or five he wanted to be Fred Flintstone so I made him into a caveman. I bought some animal print fur. Sewed up one side. Laid it on the floor and cut diagonally from about a quarter of the way down from the top (this end goes under one armpit) to the top of the other side. I think I must have cut a bit of the other side (for his other arm) and then tied the top ends of the diagonals on top of his shoulder. (That sounds really complicated but it wasn't really). I then used an eye liner to "make him hairy!!!"".
We used the same costume the following year except put a white T-shirt underneath and stuffed socks in the arms as muscles. Went to the local haberdashery and they gave me a tube from inside one of their rolls of material. Blow up two black balloons write with tippex on each "1 Ton" and tie them to the ends of the tube. Gel his hair into a middle parting and draw a dodgy moustache with curled up ends and voila you have an old fashioned strongman.
He actually won first prize at the local cinema's fancy dress contest for this one.0 -
