Widening french doors

We currently have french doors (1.3m wide opening) leading to outside in a single story extension to our lounge, We'd like to open it up by another 1m, and probably fit sliding doors. The doors we've seen will be approx £1800, do you have any idea on labour and whats involved?

It'll be propping up existing ceiling (nothing above it only a sloped, tiled roof)
removing doors and cutting brickwork back/widening gap
fitting larger lintel?

Has anyone had this done please? And would I need permission to do so?

    Thanks people

No quotes as yet, still undecided on what to put in the wider opening:

French doors - Not sure if you'd get them to fit an opening 2.4m wide?

Sliding doors/patio doors - Dont get full open access in summer

Bi-fold doors - Full opening, but when closed am thinking too much view obscured by 3 thicker 'joins' on the doors

    Any suggestions?

Sort of a job, that without seeing and double checking with building control, nobody ever is going to tell you neither the price or what it involves.
Quality(cost), of the doors depend on heating scenario, general house fittings, but it is hardly ever the main issue, when we are talking about lintels, frames, finishing (including some brickwork, plastering, painting), even a simplest of flooring situation could change everything, never mind, the quality of the wall (load bearing etc) or "nothing" ceiling- rafters- what is in situe.

The only advice I would have, is to ask couple of local builders to give a quote and expect to pay way more for "everything!, than fancy looking doors.
