National Trust, English Heritage, or???

Options
It is a minefield trying to find which to join, we live on Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border and all the parks and interesting places around seem to come under a different organisation! All of them charge a lot to park or get in but offer free or reduced entrance to members but we cannot afford to join them all!
Notts CC, North Lincs CC, NT, EH, RSBP etc.
As seniors which is best to join as now we have time we would like to visit some interesting places around the UK?
Plus best MSE way to join?

English Heritage's joint Senior membership is £67.00 per year but if join by Direct Debit in your first year you can get 15 months for the price of 12. So if you join on say 1st May 2017 your membership will run to 31st July 2018. (There may be cashback as well.)

By comparison there's no joint senior rate for the National Trust; the normal joint rate is £105 per year. But, the NT has about 300 properties whilst there's only around 100 entry fee charging properties with English Heritage.
  • Do you have any Tesco clubcard vouchers cos you can use them for annual memberships of English Heritage or RSPB. With English Heritage you can take up to 6 children free with you so useful if you've got grandchildren.

Is that offer from the NZNT still going?

Used to be if you joined them as an overseas member, you got Nt access here and English Heritage thrown in.

If you have a packaged current account with some banks such as RBS or NatWest then you sometimes get a couple of free NT day passes.

We've dropped both NT & EH for a break and are seriously looking at the National Art Pass this year.

Yeah, check your bank. I'm with Barclays and my account was randomly upgraded a year or so ago, and one of the perks is free English Heritage membership (for up to 2 adults and 6 children)
  • We have NT and EH and prefer NT but may depend where you live.

The type of properties that NT have are very different from EH. If you like castles EH is best, if you like country houses/mansions and gorgeous gardens then NT is best.

There is a pensioner discount for NT (25% off adult price) but you have to have been a member for 5 years out of the last 10. They don't advertise it either.

Yes, the NZNT membership still gets you free entry to all UK National Trusts plus English Heritage properties as well.

95 NZ dollars for a family of 4 or $89 for an individual for overseas membership.

Thanks BUT it does not include parking, I got this reply from the National Trust and as the parking charge is the only cost for places we go, Clumber Park is £5. it is not worth while.

The National Trust and Heritage of New Zealand are separate organisations, but we do have a reciprocal visiting arrangement.
Heritage of NZ members can use their membership cards for free admission to our places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. However, car parking is not included with the membership.
  • How about joining one for a year, then a different one the following year? That should give you a fair few years of visits to different places.
