Built in Neff microwave fault; repair/replace

Our Neff microwave has stopped working.

Built in microwave/oven etc.

Looking on AO, a similar replacement will hit £700

I note on their website there is a repair service however, I was also led to believe that once microwaves pack in it's better to replace.

The unit is >7 years old.

Any thoughts? Could it be a simple and cheap replacement part

  • We need more information. It could be anything from an easily fixed blown fuse or wiring fault to a failed magnetron etc.

In what way has it stopped working?

    Is it completely dead?

Does a panel light or any other light come on?

Neff will come out and fix it. They came out and fixed ours
  • everything works as normal but nothing warms up. The light panel etc looks fine

That suggests either a blown internal fuse which should be easy to replace or a failed magnetron which is a more expensive replacement.

What is the model number? Google for a service document or get a quote from Neff if you are not competent to attempt a fuse replacement yourself.

A couple of months ago, our integral Neff microwave went bang and all the lights went out. It wasn't the plug or the socket, and the microwave was totally dud, so we decided that it wasn't worth repairing a 10 year old bit of kit and bought a new one. £700 sounds expensive - ours was £400 from Debenhams (tried John Lewis first - same price but they only had white and we wanted stainless steel to match the double oven).

Mr S is handy enough to have been able to fit it himself (with a bit of a hand from me) which saved the £70 fitting fee. Only niggle is that the time display on the new microwave is white, whilst the oven is green - just why do they have to change things like that!

I've just had a look at AO and the £700 model is multi-purpose all singing and dancing. Ours is a middle range model - but of course the main concern is that it had to fit the existing cabinet. If your only option is this model, then it may be worthwhile getting an engineer to have a look at it just in case it can be fixed.
