High revving fiesta.

Hi all, thought I had already posted this but cant seem to find it.Anyway no2 daughters ford fiesta 06 and a very good runner however a few weeks back a problem when starting has occured. Now normally on most petrol cars on starting from cold in the morning they will rev a little higher for a few seconds then settle down to normal revs.
However her fiesta on starting from cold revs as if the throttle was almost pushed completely down.It settles to normal revs within about 10 seconds but Im worried about the engine having little oil for those seconds and still being revved so hard.
So can anyone point me in the right direction regarding the possible cause? Is it possibly the engine management? And likely a garage job or is there something I could look at myself? Thanks for any help..

Does she push the throttle down when starting it? If the oil level and pressure is correct then revving it wont hurt it.

1001 reasons why it would rev up, throttle sensor, air leak, faulty ignition system causing the idle to be lower than it should and its attempting to correct it and then suddenly it finds a decent signal.

  • How many RPM does it rev to exactly? I've has cars that revved up to around 2000 rpm on a cold start but any higher than that probably isn't right.

Have to look at that tomorrow when she calls round but when she was here and leaving other morning I went out to listen and from the sound it was not far off full revs for about 8/10 seconds then settles down to normal.
It certainly draws your attention on a quiet morning and although it is something she would live with It was the possible time lapse between the engine getting full oil pressure up and the high revs I was concerned with.
