yes, had a lovely evening out. My friends reckon I visited them... 40 years ago! Where did the time go??? They are going to be tourists tomorrow so plan to eat out in the evening , time to be arranged. then they are off making other visits on Tuesday.

Shoeboxes. Yes anything that can leak I put in polybag, but I would first selotape the lid securely.

Great. I think you'll enjoy hunting out the contents and then knowing that the box will be a present that is really really appreciated.

Yes , another meal out! (Bloomin' expensive and not fantastic IMHO- but I'm certainly not doing this every week end!)) really enjoyed chatting to my friends and sending them off to explore little bits of the town where I live. They are off to Ely & Cambridge in the morning.
Said goodbye and then suggested it better not be another 40 years! No, we won't be here!!

I had a mooch round 'the work's for my shoeboxes, don't get in often, surprised at how much dearer they have become

Any ideas for a 21st would be greatly appreciated.

It's for a female, she doesnt drink. Our sports club are getting her some flowers and chocolates, I've got her a smellie set so far and im going to get her a balloon but struggling with something just to finish off the present, perhaps as a small keepsake? Have nothing in my stocks that is suitable.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Great afternoon tea. They haven't made a profit out of us! We paid £10 for 2.
    Consumed 3 x coffee =£7.50, 3x tea = £6, 2 x scones =£4.30 not to mention the 2 rounds of sandwiches, 2 x macaroons & 6 x cakes!!
Bargain plus we talked for nearly 3 hours. It was a very pleasant afternoon.

Back home to cut and wash the 3 x KS duvets I collected on Tues. No guesses for what I have been, am , will be doing for a few days. The sewing machine is red hot!

Too late to offer a suggestion but I saw they had gift cards for afternoon tea. Don't know how a 21 year old would have liked that?

  • Just breaking my lurk to say hello to all the other Link to Hope creators! I've been doing it for a few years and last year volunteered as an Area Collector, ended up with 192 shoeboxes in the living room! Super chuffed and have already volunteered for this year too, might even break 200 as I noticed that there's only me and one other person registered as ACs for our rather large county! (Don't want to put too much detail as I'd be quite obvious on the Collectors list XD)

I've been working on my shoeboxes this week, I found some small giftboxes reduced to 75p each in WH Smiths and decided to use them for home made sewing kits. Bought two (I do 2 family and 2 elderly boxes so these will go in the family ones) boxes and have been on eBay looking for sewing needles, thimbles, buttons and the rest. Managed to get 4 spools of cotton thread for £2 in a charity shop yesterday, will go back next week to see if they've still got some so I can add extra colours.

Late August/early September is a great time to get the school supplies as you get lots of "back to school" offers in supermarkets and places like Rymans. Some biros, pencils, rubber, sharpener and a notebook can be all the difference between a child going to school or having to miss their education :( I also make sure to include some crayons and felt tips or colouring pencils too.

Anyway, just wanted to say it's so lovely to see other people joining in with this charity's appeal and I hope you all have fun sourcing stuff for it! It can get so addictive, I always over buy and end up storing stuff for next year (just in one small box at the moment).

    Hello Vintage Historian.
Just to say I had 4 x really large shopping bags full of items stored away. Told myself I was NOT to buy any extra goodies but then when I went into one charity shop they had long thin scarves @ 50 pence each
I bought 4 telling myself they take up so little room!!

One full bag already put back. I bought all that was offered of Tesco basic soap & toothpaste when they were selling cheap. Obviously discontinued stock (sadly)- they must fill half the bag, the rest are toys, pens and countless erasers. How can you refuse those @ 5 pence each????

I have almost given up on solar powered calculators

My needlecases are cut out, Need sewing together. I put in a large spool black or white. This time I shall probably put a few inches of velcro as well as buttons. The body butter 'jars' are freebies!

feeling proud of my recycling ethic! Rescued a grey (white) towel dumped out by dustbins but refuse collectors didn't take it- no it wasn't in a bin. washed it, gave it to a friend and it's on it's way to a dog rescue in Romania today.

Time to walk the hounds round the block......

Nearly completed my first family box. Planned just to do 2 OAP boxes originally but as you go along hunting out things plus things I already had, have decided to do 2 family boxes aswell.

Wanted to ask if you have no area collectors nearby which I haven't, how would I get the boxes to where they need to be or do I just contact link to hope?

Katiehound I don't know how you do it, but it is brilliant what u do do and the monies u raise and the charities u support
