Would like to take a 1yr sabbatical from work to travel. Possible?

Hi all,
I'd like to take a 1 year sabbatical from work to travel the world.
I have been in my company for nearly 2 years. Is it realistic to have this kind of conversation with my employer?
How should I approach it? Who should I talk to?

Only your employer can tell you.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Mention it to your immediate boss / maybe look at any published company policy?0

After just 2 years?
My company offer a sabbatical but I think it's after 15 year, maybe even 20....0 -
Is there any reason as to why your company would hold a job open for you for a year.....
You havent been there quite 2 years, be careful. under two years they can dismiss you for no reason at
all, they could just as easily do that and employ someone to do your job. They dont have to tell you why......make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
But how do I initiate this conversation?
Should I talk to my manager first or HR to explore any possibilities?
And surely a company who wants loyal employees can see if they allow something like this for me, I will repay them with loyalty in the long-term knowing they helped.0 -
You haven't done enough years service and made them enough money yet to be considered a useful employee.
It's too early to ask for anything like this, extended holiday leave may be more likely.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Why not just resign, travel and then get another job when you return?0

If it was your company would you hold someones job for them for a year after less than 2 years service , I think the answer would be no.
as someone else said with less than 2 years service they can dismiss you without a reason, so be careful.
I think most in your situation would just leave, who knows what might happen in the year you have off, you may not want to return0 -
More of an employment question than travel related, imho.0

It's neither really, because nobody can possibly answer it accurately in either section. The OP needs to ask his employer, but should be prepared to be turned down in no uncertain terms and have their card marked as somebody who is to be treated with caution when it comes to promotions and extra responsibility in the future.0
