Entered hundreds/thousands of comps and won little or nothing?

My mother must have entered in the high hundreds or thousands of competitions this past year and only won a low priced comp she entered. Had this happened to anyone else, to enter so many and yet win so little?
Is there anything she can do to increase her chances of winning these comps she enters?

Some compers enter hundreds per day & win very little.
I no longer note entry totals. I just enter & forget. If the win comes that is fine. If not I see it as just hobby.
I did note totals a few years back. I entered about 22,000 comps & won prizes at about the rate of 1: 1500.
Re is there anything you can do maybe try effort comps. Or local newspapers that have lower entry totals.0 -
Yes, some people are lucky and some people are not
I have been entering hundreds of comps a day for over 6 years and won about 6 or 7 times
I just keep entering and hopefully one day i will win big
Good luck, keep going0 -
Some people enter maybe 200+ a week. I probably enter on average 20-30 a day just off this forum. Your mother just needs to keep entering and she will win, but a thousand comps over one year isn't many comps at all to be entering and many people nowadays perhaps only win comp in every 1000 entered.:easter:0

This thread will give you an idea of the number of entries that some competitions have. So, one small win for hundreds or even thousands of entries is about par for the course.0

Entering competitions is really popular now and you can see from these threads how many people thank the poster and even more are sure to have entered. Say 20 years ago less people entered and I won some lovely prizes but not won anything for quite some time now (although I enter less).
it really is luck of the draw, but if you enter lots you have more of a chance.
I used to spend lots of time with little return and now I just pick and choose and enter some - then forget it.
Look at it as a hobby and only do it if she/you enjoy it0 -
Noticed a smeg food mixer comp on FB today - was going to enter but realised there were SIXTY BLOODY THOUSAND ODD comments. You had to comment and share. I think it was running from 5 Dec and closes tomorrow. I did enter one like it recently so I may have even already entered.
Once a comp gets mentioned on FB, forget it. Way too many entries. Yep someone has to win, but it's just so hard. Too many people doing it these days...I used to love my hobby, but it's become a vicious circle - you want to share, and want to help others find comps, want other people to share them so you can find them, but then tens of thousands enter lol. Ho hum...

You can safety ignore the number of thanks on MSE as they only represent some of the entries from here and for "mainstream" competitions MSE entries will usually just be a tiny percentage of the total number (0.5% or less in some cases)0 -

Indeed - that comp I mentioned above had something like less than 200 thanks on here lol!

If she is entering things from "myoffers", "getmeaticket" or similar that appear on the ITV website and others, the chances of winning a big one from them are very slim as they get a vast number of entries and there is often just one prize to be won from what appear to be several different competitions - This £3,000 value prize appears as 7 or 8 different competitions (win £3,000 to spend at Lidl, Win £3,000 to spend at Boots etc) but there is only 1 prize to be won. There will be 1 winner who will receive one of the following prizes: £3,000 to spend at Lidl or at Boots or at John Lewis or at Zara or at Thomson or £3,000 to spend on a kitchen refurbish or on a bathroom refurbish or an all inclusive family holiday to a destination to Marbella including £500 spending money0 -
The best thing to do is just keep at it as you've gotta be in it to win it. I used to win a lot but that,s going back over 6 years ago, I probably enter the same amount now but don't win much. I tend not to expect wins like I used to but I still enjoy it, occupies my over active mind! Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:
