No Microsoft? Assuming its Windows 10, Office starter 2010 works well (reduced functionality) or loads of office compatible freebies...

Depends on what you mean by "compatible", e.g. if you want to run Excel macros you'll need Excel.
Just editing a .doc file, there's plenty of options.0 -
