Cheap Energy

There must be thousands like me who took advantage of MSE's energy opportunity nearly a year ago and signed up to Eon's MSE Fixed 1 tariff which certainly proved to be a money saver. In a couple of months our 1 year fixed term will come to an end and all we can do is go for the cheapest deal available at the time - which would still cost me 20% more than I am paying at present.
With so many club members in a similar position why hasn't Martin negotiated another cheap energy deal with a supplier?

Hi - welcome to the forum. He tried last in November and the cheapest bid was above what was already available on MSE CEC. It was therefore not offered. IMHO - with increasing energy prices and and a wish to see more and more creative tariffs - the days of collective tariffs are over. We are already seeing comparison sites negotiatiing one off tariffs with suppliers but these are only available to new customers. Why - because suppliers do not want to pay MSE CEC et al £60 to retain an existing client.
Edit: I am already thinking its 2017 - old age and too much wine. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
He had negotiated a deal a few months back. Most of the energy firms are upping there prices now.0

It's futile comparing what you fixed at a year ago to what you can get now. If a collective fix comes up that means a 15% increase instead of 20%, then that is a result. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Not many suppliers want collective fixes, unless they want to grow. They are horrible to plan for customer service wise, and come renewal, most customers will leave, which incurs the supplier both expensive acquisition costs (payable to MSE CEC upon a customer joining) and then additional costs with a large outflux of customers leaving at the tariff renewal.
Smaller, more coordinated (and perhaps local or more targeted) collective tariffs, which don't lead to a sudden surge of customers (and therefore staffing requirements) is most likely the way forwardThank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!0
