Stopping chimney hot air loss?

Options
Help we have moved into a house with a chimney in the lounge and it seems very cold in there where we are losing a lot of heat up the chimney. We have tried a chimney balloon but these do not work at all seemingly.

We are going to fit a chimney hat to stop dirt coming down but what can we do to stop the heat loss?

Thanks in advance :)

LMAO! It's a brand name for the yellow itchy insulation stuff used between loft joists and in slab form in cavity walls. I think it was suggested because it will squeeze/mould to fit any size hole and could be pulled out if required at a later date. Also it has some insulation properties. It is not a complete seal so it will allow some breathing. You should not totally block without putting in an air vent otherwise it may get damp.

But what will happen when Santa comes down the chimney and tries to fill your stockings?
There's gonna be a right mess on the carpet after he's struggled to deliver his festive load. :(
