Deceased Father account on my Credit File

Hi
Just getting ready to set the ball rolling remortgaging our house for a better deal and rate.
Upon checking my credit file I noticed I had a default from Talk Talk.
I've never had a Talk Talk account.
When I checked it it was listed under my Father who I share the same name with but his Date of Birth was Showing. He passed away in April.

What's the best action to take to get it removed. I am guessing I shouldn't apply for any mortgages until it's cleared.

Comments

  • Raise a dispute with the CRA in question (or all three if needed) and get it disassociated.

Complain to the ICO about this. Supposedly individuals are uniquely identified by the CRAs using name, address and DoB. If one of these elements doesn't match then what on earth are they doing posting a record? This electronic guessing that they're engaging in is not bloody good enough. OP, if this is delaying your mortgage application you should go for compo from them. And another thing, these bounders at the CRAs now get a feed from the GRO about deaths, so there's really no excuse at all for this. I shudder to think what the overall state of the CRA databases are like - shot through with millions of errors, it would appear.

Both Equifax and Talk Talk are blaming each other...
Equifax are saying Talk Talk are saying the info is correct
Talk Talk are saying Equifax need to sort it.

Even though I have pointed out the DoB is not Mine on the account.
    Arghhhhhhh

Equifax are 100% to blame. Threaten them with the ICO, then report them anyway. As I noted earlier, these chumps at the CRAs get updates from the GRO about deaths. Their data processing protocols are a scandal.
