Im Desperate now, cannot get a loan for a new Boiler and it needs replacing, been condemned. Have tried everything. I work but earn too much, I have bad debts so all income goes to paying bills and mortgage and debts, actually most debts are gone its just my credit score is so low. Tried loans for bad credit, have no one I can ask to be a guarantor. I have no heating and no hot water and two kids. Don't get any benefits so I'm at a loss. I feel I would be better off on the dole.

Have you tried the boiler companies who install for installments, even down to BGmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Breathe for a minute . Who 'condemned ' your boiler ? Need more info here . If you were to get an independent repairman/woman , they would possibly be able to get you parts for your boiler and repair it .
The boiler can then work for potentially longer than anticipated .
How old is the boiler ?
I had a potter ton myson boiler , which was still going strong after 15 years when I left my flat a couple of months ago.
Try to google the make/ model no. Of your boiler. You may be able to get parts for it on eBay, believe it or not .
I don't know how much you owe, but someone like step change / Payplan may be able to help.
There is a form on the forum somewhere, where you give an s o a .
Fill that in, and others on here will be able to steer you in the right direction for sure .
Good luck . Hope this helps , in the meantime0 -
What kind of boiler is it, gas, oil, electric ???
Do you qualify for this scheme :

If British Gas condemned it - take that with a pinch of salt and get a second opinion. BG condemned my boiler and apparently it is because they can only use original manufacturer parts - not factor parts. When the manufacturer stops making parts BG condemn the boiler, however independent gas appliance servicers can and do use factor parts - so the boiler is fine for another umpteen years.

Yes, try to get a local independent gas engineer to come & have a look at it. They are usually cheaper & more flexible about replacement parts than the big companies. A local gasman fitted our new boiler last year. He chargef £600 which included the brand new boiler, the associated pipework & all the labour. I know this is a lot of money & doesn't help in terms of you being able to afford it but I just wanted to say that it can be worth getting a 2nd opinion. I also wonder if an independent gas engineer might know about possibilities of fitting a good 2nd hand or reconditioned one.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (20/100)

Agree - this happened to us a couple of years ago in the same way January says. They said our boiler was defunct, left us without heating and hot water for 3 weeks over Christmas, tried to get us to but a new boiler and finally admitted it was to do with parts (as above) and compensated us for inconvenience. Part fitted and boiler ok...DMP since August 2011
DFD January 2018 hopefully sooner :j

There may be local charities that can help out, I know of one that is very specific to our town that would help you. Might be worth contacting Citizens Advice or somewhere like your local Foodbank who can be a good source of information for people who are struggling. Dont assume that just because you work you wont be entitled to any help, I would have thought that being without heat and water with children to care for there must be some help out there somewhere.
I agree get another opinion on the boiler too.0 -
Thanks for all your advice, just to update - The Gas Board condemned is, there was a leak at the end of our street and we reported it so they check our property, the guys saw it and passed out:rotfl: so it was not British Gas. Even made me sign a form saying I would not use it. Its over 15 years old system boiler. It has a faulty fan but may have other faulty parts. Homework has shown me it would cost £150 for a part but no guarantee its going to solve it. Tried all the usual avenues. Now looking to "rent" a boiler but they sound too good to be true - Anyone have any experience of these - cost / benefits etc - Once again thanks0

We also signed a form saying we would not use the boiler when BG condemned it. To be fair, we didn't use it - we just got a second opinion (non BG) opinion and got it repaired.
I have never heard of renting a boiler - so cannot help there, but surely as it's a permanent installation into your home this would involve some sort of hire purchase/credit agreement. For example, I just googled and looked at the first one that came up (called Help-link) and in the tiny type at the bottom of the page is states:Representative Example: Cash Price £2246 less a deposit of £1070.50 Total Loan amount = £1175.50. Repayable by 120 monthly repayments of £17. Total Charge for credit = £864.50. Total Amount Repayable £3110.50That is going to require a credit agreement
and also states:

It may have been mentioned already, but what about your home insurance etc? Would it cover breakdowns. Sorry if it's been mentioned already
You may not have insurance , so it may not apply.0
