Poor sellers, what hope do you have?

Doing a bit of late night shopping last night, need something quicker than the items winging their way from China.
Found 3 sellers with the item i need at similar prices, comparing them to see which one to order from and the postage option seemed a good start.
All 3 sellers had the same estimated Wednesday/Thursday 4th and 5th, Except a note on one of the sellers saying they were away until the 6th.
So ebay knew they were away yet still had an estimated delivery date before they were due to return?

The message is just a message that seller has added, nothing to do with eBay and does not affect the delivery time. The seller needed to amend their shipping estimate to protect themselves, otherwise they are bound by the time they state, regardless of what messages they put.
At the moment they might be away, but they are still saying they ship in xx time and seller has made no allowance for the fact that they cannot do that. It's the old 'holiday settings' with items still visible. People do not realise (and by that I mean sellers) that adding their holiday settings does not alter their dispatch time, they need to do it manually or hide their listings.0

Ah so the sellers fault then, i just assumed it was ebay being silly.

Sellers should know/realise. eBay should really sort out their holiday settings mode.0 -
I was under the impression that whilst holiday settings were on, no purchases could be made from that seller?

there are two settings, one just warns buyers that the seller is away. Shop owners though can put their stuff on full settings and actually remove it from view where it cannot be purchased.

There is nothing to sort out though really, the message cannot over ride what settings the seller has put. It is not really rocket science for a seller going away for a week to realise that promising 1 day dispatch is impossible and to set it for 7 days instead which ebay will then use to recalculate the delivery time.

Would they need to employ several thousand people to check every time a seller uses a holiday message and then manually re set the dispatch time? The holiday settings mode should work to accommodate the dates the seller inputs. If you want to keep your listings visible the setting should move the dispatch date. The problem is that it doesn't and furthermore, not all sellers realise this - infact there is a thread on the PS boards again today about it. What do you mean how would it work? When you put your settings on it asks for your return date. All that will happen is the return date is the first dispatch date. It wouldn't require much input by Ebay at all. On the holiday settings mode the system knows the seller is away until xyz date. The listings should take that as the return date and adjust the dispatch times. There would not be any requirement to employ "several thousand people" nor would there need to be any manual input by Ebay.0 -
Oops, i appear to have opened a can of worms..
I thought it would have been as above also. Set my holiday date and it would automatically change the postage date to that day or even the day after.
It shouldnt be hard, but not having the need to set holiday dates its never been a problem. I stop listing a good while before im going away just in case.
I dont want to be dealing with non payers and other issues as i get ready for a holiday.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
