    Hi guys,

I fully agree with everything regarding HSBC...But I am so tempted to open a new account in order to get £200! Only problem is, I would have to switch to do so and I am happy with the other accounts I have. I was debating opening a basic NatWest or Barclay's account and switching straight to HSBC, do you feel it is a) doable and b) worth the hassle / £200?

    Cheers x

Yes, just apply for a normal account with an institution you already have an account with. Then set up suitably and apply for a transfer, simple process though painstakingly slow with HSBC, and then take advantage of the regular saver as well.

I think you're all being right meanies!
I've been with them for 20 years and never had an issue with branches, on the phone or their internet banking.

I think people have a tendency to exaggerate any issue with their bank because that's what people like to do....moan!

Anyway i digress, HSBC are no different to any other high street bank, you can have dramas with them all.

I've had about 30 different phones and never once had a problem with their banking app. I'm especially glad you can't do some things with it such as set up a new faster payment in the app. HSBC tend to focus on the security of your account rather than how easy it is to be emptied!!
  • I have been with HSBC for about 10 years and I would agree that their internet banking and mobile applications have been lagging behind the others but they are catching up.

They mobile app works well now and you don't need the calculator looking thing to generate a code (unless your phone or tablet is old I guess).

I found their telephone banking to be the best service out of all the banks ...

Sure you can have dramas with them all. Some other have been offering something that HSBC never did: decent interest on decent sums of money. Even Tesco Bank beats HSBC in that regard, and Lloyds, BoS, TSB and Santander all did, too. It's levelling out now that interest rates are in the doldrums but it's been great for about 4 years.

I like the idea of using voice recognition to pass security. I have enrolled a couple of months ago so that I am all set up. Now I just need to find a reason why I would need to phone them.............

I finally got my physical security device today. Even then I had trouble setting it up. I have used several banks for switching before. This has been the worst experience of all. I don't do telephone banking, so can't comment. I've definitely earned my £150 reward!
