PPI on Mortgage

On behalf of my Mum I am trying to find out if she had any misold insurance on her mortgage from many years ago. Contacted the building society that did the loan using one of Martin's template letters - had a reply back asking for £10 fee - is this normal procedure? Thank you :)

If she doesn't know if she had it how can she say let alone prove that it was miss sold.

If she or her spouse had died or during the mortgage period how would the mortgage be paid.

If it is such a long time ago they are unlikely to have any documents, does your mother have any documents.

The Ten pounds is for SAR. For them to look for any docs.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    Thank you for the reply.

If you wrote and ask them for a copy of her files they are allowed to demand £10 payment. If you simply want to know if she had PPI, look at her paperwork or ring them up and ask.

Remember that MPPI is the only PPI really sold these days as it is a great product, it could save your home from repossession if you lost your job or were unable to work for a period due to illness. It's quite possible she didn't have it but had say life insurance or critical illness which also serve purposes.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
