Cold house

My one bed house is very cold. I have rointe elec rads on timer for the evening (and upstairs in the morning) but today the house is 10 degrees (I'm usually at work so don't think about daytime cold) and I'm worried my house and my pet rats will be too cold - and me too I guess!

I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend a decent gas heater or whether I should just put money to be spent on that aside towards my next quarter leccy bill. Decisions!

I recall that you are on the BG "Free Sunday hours" electricity tariff and therefore can only afford to be comfortably warm for a limited 8 hours each Sunday, because the other 160 hours in the week on this silly tariff are ridiculously expensive!

A lovely comfortable 22 degrees here, all day, every day of the week and no rats!

It's my first winter here so trying things out really. I CAN afford the leccy thanks :-). Thanks tho for informing me of your position, very helpful.

    And the rats are staying.

Propane/Butane cabinet gas heaters are even more expensive per kwh than leccy unless you buy big cylinders.

What's the EPC rating on your one bed house ? Like others 22°C is my comfort level living.

Rointe's biggest 'D' is 1.6kW which only runs at [effective power] 600W and a surface temp of only as warm as Spanish summer sand [40W] so after a day in the cold your living area will hardly reach temp with Rionte before bedtime.

Move, get the rats an incubator, get rid of the Rionte and get a proper 3kW temp & timer panel rad for £100.

I wish I could - it's a rented house sadly. And I'm tied in. It's a lovely house apart from being a wee bit chilly. I feel the need for some "instant" heat to supplement. I think the EPC rating is D-E but it was done before the rads were installed - the previous tenant tells me he survived two winters with just one mains gas fire in the living room before he put his foot down and instead of central heating, the landlord installed the Rointes (which are fab in my bedroom incidentally but that's not open to the kitchen and stairs).

But since my post I've bought a heated throw for my sofa, put the rointe on for a couple of extra hours, and given the rats plenty of scrunched up paper to keep them warm. Fingers crossed.......
