Cardboard trousers problem

No the title isn't a joke or rude. Hear me out.

A few months ago I had to replace my trousers as the old ones had holes worn into them in a spot I won't mention.

A trip to Matalan and a bought a pair of Cargo trousers with pockets down the legs.
The label on the trousers says that it's made from 100% Cotton. However, they're quite stiff.

You know when you buy some clothes the manufacturers put in some carboard, these trousers feel like cardboard instead of Cotton.

Even after many washes and plenty of fabric conditioner, they're still like cardboard.
When I taken them out of the wash, they're wet, but still stiff. Heck, they've barely crumpled in the wash despite the load.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can solve this?

Like most construction workers I have many pairs of work trousers with pockets down the sides. They are all heavy, stiff and do not seem to crumple. Indeed the fabric is treated with Teflon, or other products which helps cause this. I wonder if you have something similar. If so I doubt there is an answer to your question.

You're lucky enough to possess a pair of trousers like Levis used to be 50 years ago.....and you're complaining?

I can't begin to tell you what we had to do to our Levis to make them look worn back in the 60s. It took days!

Now, of course, kids get them with the worn out look from the shop, but they aren't the Real Thing. No way!

Nope. I've got 4 pairs of these sort of trousers. Plus a single pair that you would wear with a shirt & tie.
  • I guess people are starting to jump to conclusions about me.
I have the following clothing. All none fashion (I dislike fashion).
4 cargo trousers in different colours.
1 smart wear trousers to go with a single shirt and choice of 2 ties.
    4 short length shorts
    4 quarter length shorts
10 regular t-shirts in different colours
20 pairs socks (all wearing thin)
    12 pairs boxers
    2 lightweight jumpers.
    2 medium weight jumpers.
4 woollen jumpers (just got the 4th one this xmasas gift)
    I don't have shoes as I can't wear them
1 pair trainers which are wearing out after 4 months
1 pair of snow boots with insides already wearing out after a month.

I've already replaced all of my t-shirts, 3 of 4 cargo trousers and all my boxers. I keep replacing my trainers every 4 to 6 months. I can describe how they wear out so quickly if you ask.

I bought 2 cargo trousers at the same time. Despite being exactly the same, except for the colour, one is like cardboard while the other isn't. The 3rd pair I replaced 2 months before. The 4th pair is old and still going strong after 5 years.

I use to wear jeans, but then I couldn't find any my size so had to switch to trousers. If any jeans developed a hole, whether in the knee or elsewhere, I replaced them.

All I'm doing is trying to buy clothes that will last years through lightweight wear & tear, minus being knocked about by my epileptic seizures.
