Tesco Direct discriminates against Welsh Buyers?
I have just tried to make a purchase on Tesco Direct. The website offers free delivery to 'a limited number' of stores on items over £25, which can save customers £4.85 P+P.
When I checked on the 'Help' pages to find out if this service was available locally, I was delighted to see EVERY local store listed under 'Tesco Direct Collection'. Unfortunately, this is a glitch.
There are actually only 2 stores in Wales that offer the collection service- one in Wrexham, one in St Mellons (Cardiff). The huge numbers of customers in the rest of Wales just have to pay extra for the privilege of buying from Tesco Direct.
It becomes even more frustrating when you see that there are 6 collection points in Scotland, and 7 in East Anglia. Even smaller English towns like Mexborough and Wells give the option of collection.
As the Customer 'Service' operator was so abrasively unhelpful, I shall take my custom elsewhere: to another retailer that treats all its customers equally, regardless of where they live.

Must say I agree. I live in Cardiff so was able to collect my purchase, but was suprised to see that there were just two stores in Wales that offer this. I just assumed that with the amount of Tesco stores in Cardiff alone (including at least two tesco extra's) there would have been more.
By the way, I've just been to my local Tesco this morning & if you pick up a tesco Direct catalogue (free) instore then scan it through the till, you'll get a voucher for £5.00 off your next Tesco Direct order....effectively free P&P. So if you haven't purchased your item yet and you still want it from tesco that might be worth doing?0 -
Thanks, both.
I actually did some lateral thinking once I had stopped fuming, and checked the discount code thread. I found one for £5 off a £20+ spend, so that covered the P+P. DD wanted an ipod for her birthday, and the offer was too good to miss.
Thanks for the catalogue tip, shall do that next week.
When you look at the sheer numbers of Tesco shoppers in south Wales (we have 2 huge stores, 2 smaller ones + plans for another within 6 miles of our house alone) you would think they would want to expand the Direct market, not alienate us!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
