Why not just close the acount with BG and then open the new one with Octopus. It's what you'd do if you were moving houseNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

That way, I wouldn’t qualify for the USwitch only Octopus Tariff nor get cashback - but it’s an option. Can you specify the date you want the old account closed, so it matches the date I go on-supply with Octopus, or whoever? I haven’t done this before so not sure how it works if you aren’t “switching” as such.0

If you use a referral code to switch to Octopus you will get £50 cashback. How much cashback are USwitch offering?0 -
I wasn’t aware of the cashback with a referral code. Quidco are offering £36.0

A lot of companies offer a referral credit, but it is always worth doing a comparision for your own usage and area, to see which is the most cost effective deal for yourself.
We helped an older relative to switch and she received enough credit to pay for her electric for a whole year.
Usually, you only need a couple of other people to use your referral code, if it is a good deal for them, and the saving can be more than going with a cheaper supplier.0 -

Is it that simple? Surely, if an account is closed then the new occupant will go onto a Deemed tariff with the existing supplier. The new occupant would have to set up an account with the Deemed Supplier to cover usage until the switch goes through. It is probably easier to take up E.oN’s offer to change the name on marriage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Very, very old thread but Helena's post is *exactly* the info I've been looking for over the past few weeks, and in the absence of being able to click 'Thanks' on such an old post, just thought I'd express my appreciation this way instead0
