I am posting this on behalf of a 61 year old lady who is at her wits end. Her ex partner stole her identity & run up debts whilst living with her. Hes scarpered & now shes getting debt collectors at her door. Shes contacted the police, victim support etc. Told debt collectors of his new address but they still keep calling round.
As you can understand this is having a effect on her health. Can anyone help this lady out? The debt collectors don't seem interested in his new address for some reason?
She even had a debt collector looking for him on boxing day. :-(((

The debt collectors are trying to collect on a debt owed by Mrs Old Lady for whom they have the correct address; why would they be interested in the address of Mr Con Man who doesn't owe them any money? (From their perspective.)
She needs to concentrate on getting the original lenders to accept that the application was fraudulent, I suggest getting a crime reference number from the police would be a good start then rebuffing any further contact with this info.
(BTW, I don't think 61 is particularly old, it's only 3 years away for me!)loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
Has she checked her credit score? I'm not that savvy but she needs to check that first try Noodle credit its free. Look at that to give a clearer idea of of debt. There will be someone along to help it's a brilliant site. Ring step change for advice or CAB. You need to find out first who money is owed to and how much. Good luck.Penny wise pound foolish. 366 days 1p challenge 2020/21/22/23 completed.

Hi,
She needs to inform action fraud :
http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/fraud_protection/identity_fraud
Also deal with the debt collectors in writing only, they won't listen to anything you tell them in person, you must put it in writing, and insist on all further contact be in writing only.
Address the letters to each company's compliance officer, head your letters "COMPLAINT".
It's the only way to get past the monkeys and talk to the organ grinder.
The people knocking on her door are self employed collectors who only get paid by results, so they won't be interested in any sob story !!!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Then complain to the FOS (financial ombudsman service) about the debt collectors.
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk
Just bringing a complaint against a company will cost that company it's £550 referral fee to the FOS.
So they will start taking you more seriously.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Ok, so you've exhausted all available channels.
It's a case of waiting for the FOS investigation.
In the meantime any further knocks on the door should be ignored and any letters responded to by an "in dispute letter".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
