PPI claim enquiry with no details

Like many people, we have had a number of cards (although not loans) over the years and there are all those adverts saying you should check out if you are due any details. However, we do not have any details of the cards
We know for example we had Barclaycards, Halifax card, a couple of Mint cards an Egg card but have no account numbers or dates and have moved once during the times we had the cards.
So my (probably stupid) questions are
- can we claim with just a name and address and no proof that we were
missold?
- can we do our own claim without this information or are we better using a
claim company who can do the research for us?
- if the recommendation is to use a company, any preferences?
Am more than happy for someone to say 'don't be ridiculous and greedy woman' but as I am sitting planning the 2017 budget thought I'd ask

TIA

We were in exactly the same boat as you. We simply googled the relevant bank/organisations phone number and explained the situation over the phone. Using only our names and old address they quickly found our account info and sent PPI complaint forms to fill in. Absolutely no fuss whatsoever and definitely no need to employ a firm to do it for you while paying their substantial fees.
Hope it works out for you.'Every great fortune begins with a crime' - Honore de Balzac0 -

Thank you. No idea if we paid PPI or if we were mis-sold if we were but surely worth a phone call and price of a stamp.
Did you get any refunds?0 -

Establishing if you had PPI can be done by a phone call. It is then up to you to establish if you were miss-sold by presenting any evidence you have to support your complaint reasons.
Each case is unique, one person's success (or not) will not have any impact on how likely your complaint is to succeedSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I don't understand how you can claim for mis-selling when you don't know if you had PPI and, even if you did, you admit you don't know if you were mis-sold it? What's your claim going to be based on, or are you intending to make something up on the claim to 'prove' mis-selling?0 -

Hoping for an autopay or simply naive enough to believe the CMC lies about PPI being hidden or added without your knowledge and automatically miss-soldSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
