AA, Carer allowance, SDP

My mum has just been granted the high rate of AA and just trying to work out what else they can apply for.
I think my Dads pension will mean he earns too much for Carer allowance but think we will apply anyway.
Do you get SDP with AA ?
She is in a need of a stair lift as really struggling with stairs so any extra money will be used for this.

SDP may be payable, though not if CA is in payment:

I thought you couldn't claim carer's allowance if on state pension as both are earned income replacements.0

The only way SDP would be awarded is if no NON dependants are living with your mum. In this case she lives with your dad and unless he claims a disability benefit too then she wouldn't qualify.Confuseddot wrote: »My mum has just been granted the high rate of AA and just trying to work out what else they can apply for.

It does seem quite complicated. I don't think that my dad would get carers allowance but the underlying equivalent. I also read somewhere if he only gets this she may be eligible for SDP. But there does seem to be a lot of conflicting evidence about.
I suppose the best case is just to apply for everything the worst they can say is no.Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j0 -
No, she wouldn't be entitled to SDP because she lives with your dad. Here's a link that explains SDP and all the criteria.Confuseddot wrote: »It does seem quite complicated. As explained in both links provided it hinges on whether you Dad claims qualifying disability benefits as well, or is registered blind.
A benefits check from CAB may help them.

so what does this part mean
Please note: If Carers Allowance is not actually payable to your carer, for example because the other benefits they receive are affected by the overlapping benefit rules, you can still qualify for the SDP.
They will qualify for single occupancy under council tax if he gets carers ...Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j0 -
As previously stated your mum won't qualify for SDP because she lives with your dad. A person can only qualify for SDP if they live alone (no other adults live with them) unless the other adult claims DLA/PIP/AA. These are just some of the criteria for claiming SDP.Confuseddot wrote: »so what does this part mean

Other eligibility criteria have to be met, not just the one relating to CA.

Note that the premiums are only paid as part of means tested benefits i.e. Pension credit. It will be a joint claim and SDP would not be payable unless your dad also has AA/PIP or DLA care at middle/high rate. If your dad got awarded underlying carers allowance, a carer premium would be awarded on claim, meaning it will be assessed at a higher rate (pension credit again)0
