How to obtain proof of no claims

My wife has 20+ years no claims. Since Sep 2010 until Sep 2016 she has been driving company cars (3 different insurers across 2/3 different employers - the 3rd company completed a takeover of the 2nd)
She is now finding it difficult to obtain proof of NCD, as the company's insurers are not willing to provide this information - saying they will only confirm proof of no claims for the duration of their policy.
Do insurers not have access to a shared database?
Basically is there no way of confirming her overall proof of NCD? (only 9 years is required)
Many thanks

If she has been driving on the company's policy she does not have any actual no claims history - it was not her policy. You need to ask the new insurer what they require as acceptable proof, many will use a letter from the employer with driving and claim history, Google may give that insurer's policy.
  • Thanks Molerat. We'll go back to new insurer to confirm required info and also to previous companies to request letter(s), as it'll be good to have this regardless.

You are mixing up "no claims" and "no claims discount"

Insurers aren't usually interested in your claims history for more than the last 5 years, and you don't have get proof to show you have been claim free over the last 5 years, but just declare "0" claims/losses (if that is the case)

She apparently has nil "no claims discount" (not 9 years!), as she has not been buying her own insurance policy for more than 2 years. They usually only accept no claim discount up to 2 years old. If she told them when taking out the policy she has 9 years no claims discount to use on the policy she needs to contact them and explain the situation (that she has nil NCD) before this escalates into a problem.

She should do as suggested and get proof that she has been driving a company car (solely for her own use) for x years and free from claims/losses. Many mainstream insurers will give some introductory discount for this to reflect her claim free experience.

If she cannot get any success she could try a local broker (not Swinton) and see if they can get some introductory discount
  • Thanks Quentin, much appreciated. We'll go back to the insurer asap.
