Hello all,

If you are like me and have a Economy 10 electricity meter then you will know its a pain in the rear when trying to find a good deal.

I have called over 20 electricity companies (28.12.16) and found that only five of them support Economy 10. These are E.ON, SSE, EDF, Green Energy and Good Energy.

Rates will be listed as Day Rate // Night Rate // Standing Charge. All prices listed are correct as of 28.12.16 and are all in GBP £'s. As pointed out below these prices are for the East Midlands region, paying DD monthly and include VAT.

E.ON: 0.17021 // 0.08516 // 0.16422
SSE: 0.1348 // 0.0955 // 0.2302
EDF: 0.1616 // 0.0768 // 0.1890
Green Energy: 0.1600 // 0.0645 // 0.2602
Good Energy: 0.1608 // 0.1041 // 0.2301

I have found that some of the suppliers will lie about the meter and will try and convince you that Economy 7 tariffs will work on the meter and you will still maintain 10 hours of cheaper electricity but pressing them further and asking to speak with their managers I found out that this is not true.

I hope someone finds this useful and if there are more suppliers out there then please post the rates including the date :)

Many thanks

But those prices are only valid for your region.
  • I had a similar experience to you last month when looking to switch suppliers... there isn't a great deal of choice. I found the best supplier for me to be iSupply Energy, their rates in your format as of 28/12/2016 as follows:-
    0.15534 // 0.07536 // 0.15534

I have switched suppliers to them and the switch was remarkably pain free - they have all the right details shown and are recording the two rates (from readings I supply). I have also received my final bill from my old supplier (SSE), so switch complete as far as I am concerned.

Hello Bacbuk and welcome to the Forums.

You're right, we do support Economy 10 meters but, as molerat says, prices are regional and the ones you've posted for us are only valid in the East Midlands region (area 11). They're inclusive of VAT but the daily standing charge you mention is for payment with a Monthly Direct Debit. All other payment methods have a higher daily standing charge of 0.26019.

There are also two and three rate Economy 10 meters. With the older three rate meters, only electricity used for heating and hot water have a full 10 hours at off peak prices. To work, these meters are wired directly into the heating circuits at individual properties and it's only electricity going through these dedicated circuits at the off peak times that are charged the lower prices. There are, though, 5 hours at night when the cheaper prices apply to all electricity used.

With the more recent two rate meters, all electricity used during the off peak times is charged at the lower prices.

Hope this is of interest Bacbuk.
