Cigarette light to USB plug?

Options
Good Morning

Looking for some advice.....I've been trying to find a plug that I can put my old dash cam into so I can plug it into a usb in the car. The dash plug has a cigarette lighter end but the car doesn't have a socket. Have googled and looked on amazon, but they all seem the wrong way around. Not really sure what you'd call it.

Thanks in advance.

  • You're a star! Thank you...will get it ordered today. It's supposed to be a non spend day, but after a horrendous accident near us this morning, I want to use my camera again. Many thanks JJ.

Ive never seen one that way round. The problem youll have is the 12v car plug doesnt fit in line with the 5v usb.

Can you not install a cig lighter in your car?

To clarify your car has a usb socket and you want to plug something that has a 12v car socket in to the USB?

Is the cable hardwired into the dash cam?

If not what plugs type is the dashcam end?
    (and voltage/current requirements)

What model of car> Does the car not have anything described as a '12 volt power' socket or something like that? That's (as far as this is concerned) the same as a ciggy lighter socket.

the query and terminology used are incomprehensible
The dash plug has a cigarette lighter end but the car doesn't have a socket

if the car doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket, then where are you going to insert the cigarette lighter to usb adapters displayed in JJ's link

The OP has a lighter plug but a USB socket. They want something that will turn the USB socket into a lighter socket, which I suspect doesn't exist.

if they have a usb outlet in the car, they need a usb lead

  • What a muddle. I reckon OP just needs a USB to mini or micro-USB plug, depends on what socket the dash-cam uses.

What car is it. It may not have a cigarette lighter socket but the chances are it may have a 12v socket hidden away somewhere.
