Do you think I can claim back for loss?

I recently came back from my Honeymoon to discover some items purchased had been taken from the room we were staying in.

I thought initially that sunglasses i may have misplaced however when brand new pair of trainers had disappeared from luggage which were in the box suspicions arose.

I have tried contacting hotel with no response.

The issue I have is the items purchased were done so with cash and the receipt for them was in the bag that was taken!

I paid for the actual holiday on credit card however I am not sure if this will cover anything

I do have travel insurance but again not sure they will cover it

Does anyone think there is possibility to claim in some capacity? Or is it a case of moving on

Thanks in advance

Incident not reported at the time to the hotel or police.

No receipts for the purchases lost.

I think this would be a difficult claim to make. Move on.

Pretty much how I'd see it.

Thanks both, just as i thought

Could not report it at time as only noticed once unpacked stuff when got back

I will leave a review online about hotel and incident as would hate for it to happen to someone else
  • If you only noticed after getting back, the items may have been taken by airport baggage handlers and not hotel staff

Fair point, i should have made it clear I noticed when we touched down in the caribbean so guess it could have been hotel staff or conveyor belt (even though it was locked)

I can get in a locked bag and re-secure it in seconds so dont think a lock actually makes your luggage safe

if it was a case of it being taken from luggage during transit what would be the steps to highlight this? Would you need to show receipts for purchase etc?

I really think you are on a loosing battle with this in terms of making an insurance claim.

You are unsure where and when the items went missing.

You have not reported the loss.

You can not prove that you had the items in the first place.

Take stock. Do you think your insurance will pay out based on this?
