losing internet connection

For about a week now I keep losing my internet connection when i go to outlook express and especially when I click send and receive. I lose it when I leave the computer for a while to and i have to reconnect with no problems. I am on Pipex. I have run avg, spybot, adaware and it is still doing this also my avg box is not lit and sometimes says its expired when i know i have the latest edition downloaded just a few weeks ago.

  • dialup up or BB? Wired or Wireless?

Does it disconnect as soon as you do send/receive, every time?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

You haven't got OE set to disconnect after send/ receive have you?
  • its broadband connected by phone line and i havn't changed any settings it just started happening. If i load the outlook express page and dont press send and receive but just let computer do it on its own it will do this and then quit also if i leave the computer for a minute and come back it has disconnected.
  • Definitely sounds like a settings issue.

Goto Tools>Options from OE. On the Connections tab, make sure the 'Hang up after sending and receiving' box isn't checked. OE is defaulted to check every 30 seconds (This can be changed on the General tab). This could be the cause.

Also. AVG should be set to update every day. A download from a few weeks ago doesn't keep you up to date with all the nasties floating about.
  • the close connections box was checked so I have unchecked it and it seems ok now. I just cant understand how it has got checked as I have never touched the connections and i dont think anyone else would bother

    thanks for all your replies
  • At least you're sorted.

Spread the word....having internet access isn't all bad :D
