BT TV equipment

Hi my mother in law took out a new contract that involved BT TV and she tried it for a week but couldn't get on with the controls and the lag changing channels and wanted to send it back and cancel it.
They have informed her that it has gone over the 14 days to do so as it started when she ordered it over the phone. It is written in the contract but come on if it takes them a week then she only really had a week to find out if it was right for her.
Is this something that can be challenged or does my mother in law simply have to accept it?
Thanks in advance.

Controls are the same as any TV remote control .0

I don't think anyone who offers a TV service that requires them to send out equipment also offers a try before you buy option, the 14 day cooling off period is to cancel if you ordered in haste and then regret the order or if the person feels they were bullied or pressured into signing up against their will, it's not to try the service for 14 days then decide if you want to keep it or not.
If the service is working correctly , but it just isn't the right choice for your relative, then it's either see out the minimum term and then cancel, or cancel and pay the early termination fees, BT are perfectly entitled to insist on this, if it isn't working correctly then she needs to contact them to check it's been installed correctly and the equipment isn't faulty,0
