Mondeo. Full service history, 150000 miles, 12 months mot.
Very good condition for it's age.
I know none of you have seen it but, in general, is there any reason not too for a grand?

Depends if it needs new injectors and a clutch. Thats about £1200 worth if they need replacing.

You need to give it a good check over and ask if the clutch has ever been replaced, you want proof if it has though.

Lots of people will tell you not to touch it with a barge pole but if you buy a good one then it will serve you well.

I sold my old 2L one with 170k on the clock 2 years ago and the current owner sticks 30k miles a year onto it. Well over 200k miles. With some basic care it will do 300k miles.

    A "yes" from me!

Love my Mondeo, year older than yours and a petrol (don't do enough mileage to run a diesel).

Might be a bit biased as this is by far the newest car I've had and the dearest, (£800 around 3 years ago).

As already said, look after this and it will go on forever.

    Good luck with it :)

    Hmmmm...

06 plate so euro iv, so it'll have a dpf and the electronic egr valve. Also dmf which give problems. Injectors aren't cheap either and are prone to failure.

From memory that's a ford transit van engine so by no means the most refined

On the plus side it's chain driven not belt.

Yep I read a bit about the injectors & EGR which is why I asked. I've only had a quick look at it so don't know about the clutch or much else... thought I'd check around first.

Might give it a miss & stick with petrol.

all cars have their own set of issues.
Petrol is the safer bet though.... they tend to burn oil. Higher mileage ones significantly. Swirl flaps, but easily removed
  • I own a 2.0 vectra 2004 diesel with 220000 on the clock no dpf simple engine and drivesee very well. Chain driven engine. Newer diesel engines being throttled by euro emmision laws

Mines an 06 and euro IV with the electronic EGR but no DPF.

Guessing its the MK3 Mondeo not the MK4. Hard pushed to find a MK3 with a DPF in the UK.

Pretty sure no dpf until about 2008 on the Ford 2.2 tdci. The last x types with 2.2 and auto boxes had one. Shortly after this Ford moved to PSA engines.

EGR can be a problem, but not expensive or difficult to change and they can be bypassed.

Wiring loom for injectors is routed close to moving parts so look for fraying as it can give false error flags about failing injectors.

EGR is easy to clean, just a messy job. If you're handy with a spanner take it off and clean it. You'll find you may need to do the inlet manifold as well as certainly on my 2L that got bunged up with sludge too but again, its not a hard job to remove that. Rear subframe bushes are an issue but replacing them with poly bushes sorts it permanently.

I sold my MK3 2.0 TDCi and bought a MK4. Always regretted that. The MK3 Mondeo was in my opinion the best one they did.

Yeah so many warnings about the diesel, injector issues and dual mass flywheels.

But a LOT of modern cars have DMF's now and the bills to replace are the same. Injectors issues yes, but a lot are misdiagnosed in the first place.

Drive into the garage and they jump up and say you need new injectors, but i only came in for a new headlamp bulb...

Lots of them on the road that have not suffered any problems. My old car is still going strong, the new owner took it from 172k miles to over 200k in approx 12 months. Probably over 220k now..
